Default Stainless Steel Laser Engraving

For an upcoming new 928-product I'm considering to have the numbers 928 laser engraved into stainless steel. However, I have no contacts with anybody who does this kind of service and have not found a local shop, yet, either.

Does anybody here have such equipment, or know anybody who does? It would make sense to keep the business in the community...

Alot of machine shops now have the software for their CNC machines to engrave whatever you want into whatever you want. Just open the yellow book.

The piece is approximately 2 x 8 inches, but not all the area would have to be lasered.

No, I'm not going to offer stainless steel bumper covers... LOL!

Nicole-

There are more than a few places that do this now. I have a now-deceased friend who had a swap-meet business making tags, badges, etc. and did the metal with a laser engraving set up. So you might start off with places that make desk and door signs, trophy sellers, etc. They do this stuff all the time. You'll need to coordinate the format for the artwork with them if you want more than lettering. The friend's machine required a file format used primarily in circuit board and embroidery machines, where the program is a series of vector instructions. They can convert raster artwork for a fee, of course. There may be more modern machines that can use EPS files, the vector instructions for Postscript printing. Shop around and you'll find someone local. Except for the file prep, the engraving is relatively inexpensive if you do more than a few at a time.

Nicole,

My business cards are photochemically etched stainless from Aculine. I'm very happy with the service and the product.

Get with carl from 928 motorsports and get a pic of the "trophys" awarded at the 928 car show at the 928's on the autobahn. I think there would be a market for these. I'm not sure if they were lasr or plasma cut but they are really cool. Rick
