You might be right it stated that 2 went to the UK 4 went to factory racers and 1 was added at a special customer request maybe the 17 were car that actually had all parts deleted. I would be interested in finding out weather this info is true. Is there anyone out there that can verify production figures or can ask Dave Hemmings if it was a typo in his book.
Thanks Chris
17 seems very small even for a special run

All known cars are listed in here. Run was small because very few people saw point in paying same amount as for fully equipt model while geting only 100 kg lighter car without anything else meaningful (to them). They didn't know that true hp number were probably somewhat higher because of the cams and chps which were later used in GT's also. Stronger gearbox with shorter final drive wasn't visible on outside etc. There are no CS brochures and whole thing was low key compared to later GT release. All that was done to promote them at the time was few magazine articles.
4 '87 S4 which were donated to factory racing drivers are not included into 17 or 19 Club Sports. These are considered CS prototypes. I we count all of the specials together result is something like this:
So they are rare. If current Rennlisters could get to that period Porsche dealer showroom with cash to burn by some time machine or such we would write now about ultra rare S4 automatic without LSD but with sunroof.

I went to the site you had on your earlier page felt sorry for the white car but I guess that just makes them more rare. by what I read I assume that car had a passenger side mirror added after delivery(kinda of trivial I know just thought I would ask) was the windo mecanism simlar to the old 911's with a locking latch alowing for full up or full down?
Thanks Chris

Manual windows used normal winders AFAIK. There is some provision in all or at least in older speaker style doors for these. Also old thread in archive about converting to manual.

Ok, I have news.
The "new" '89 CS I have found is wp0zzz92zKs840511. It is a green car that was delivered in Germany. It still belongs to the same owner but was crashed recently. I will have pictures and information soon. I hope it will be repaired.
The cars I know are:
1987 928 CS prototype, the former Derek Bell's car is still in the UK. I hope to contact the new owner.
1988 928 GTE: In Souh Africa.
1988 928 CS
wp0zzz92zJs845065: In France, in a garage.
wp0zzz92zJs845067 : In Austria.
wp0zzz92zJs845068: In Germany.
wp0zzz92zJs845070: In Germany.
1989 928 CS
wp0zzz92zKs840188: In France. My car.
wp0zzz92zKs840511: In Germany.
wp0zzz92zKs840991: Crashed and destroyed. Parts in the UK and Australia.
I still have a green car to find in Switzerland and another one in Belgium.
I have never seen a 928 with manual windows, except the 928 S that raced twice in Le Mans (1983 & 1984). It seems that a white CS that is in the USA has manual windows but I have no proof of this yet.
Regards,
Samuel

I believe that the UK based 928 SE is not really a Club Sport, but very close to a GT. Wasn't it the CS engine, tranny, exhaust but with all of the goodies added back in? In other words, didn't it tip the scales pretty close to the S4, but with the hotrod engine/tranny?

I agree with you, an SE is really close to a 1989 GT, except they are almost all the same. The only choice was the outside color.
The SE also has the M28/41 SP instead of the M28/47, no RDK and no digital dashboard.

I read your site Erkka I am not trying to be **** but it said that the cars didn't have sunroof yet the South Africa car lists one on options. I just don't want to mis represent them when I talk with people. In David Hemings book he wrote that Porsche tested the CS against the GTS and found that The CS is the fastest of all the 928's produced. You had said the figures were wrong before and there is so little I have read on them I just want to be clear on my 928 facts.

The car in South Africa is the GTE. This is factory prototype with no search to be lighter than a regular S4.
This said, every CS was a special order and you order whatever you want like every usual 928.
That is the reason why the green car I have just found was delivered with a trailing hook from the factory. Strange for a lightweight edition, isn't it?
My car was ordered with electric seats and central door looking and If I dislike the first choice (I would really prefer to have the regular manual sport seats) , I like the second.

As Samuel says, these were all custom orders. He should know, its his site after all. Virtually anything was possible. These were all made to order cars. Not just made to be send sitting into some showroom waiting for someone to walk in.
CS is probably slightly faster than GTS.

This does not have a sunroof and is a euro, what do you make of this 88S4?

Sold the company last year for around $12M and got hosed later and lost about 10X in value. Enough or the rant and history, lets get back to CARS
