You mean like these?

I have seen a couple tuner Audi's painted in the German flag colors over on VWVORTEX but they seem to be gone now

H20 is this weekend so there may be some new photo threads up soon. I love them painted like that on diagonals.

It seems that 914 owners often suffer from brand identity insecurity, and feel obligated to put huge Porsche side graphics. Porsche crest hood badges, rear fascia panels, reflector strips, spoiler lettering, windshield banners, all proclaiming to the world that it's really not a VW in wolf's (not wolfsburg...) clothing. I'm a bigger fan of the clean look, with original insignia only, no matter how bright the paint color might be. I say let the lines of the car speak for themselves. Those that know the car will appreciate it without all the advertising pasted on.

Just my opinion, of course. Freedom of expression extends to colors and graphics.

Default Comments on rolling flames

When I take mine to paint, the idea of '50 rolling body flames from nose to tail with the original rosewood as a thinned color (psuedo clearcoat) over spray. The object is to have flames ripple under the top coat as the observer passes by the car. This would preserve the original color but really alter the view of the car. Sort of what Foose did on a dodge magunum on overhaulin'.

Any thoughts or feedback?

I think that would look good on a 14.

Default 914

A far away shot of the 914 - buthopefully you get the idea. BTW - that one is powered by a 993 motor.

Dr.Bob,
I definitely have no brand insecurity--no "Powered by _____" will ever be on anything I drive . I just happen to like the stripe, I think it gives it a more classic look.

Sub,
Thanks for the link! I found that site and those pictures before, and got a few styling ideas from it...

I'm trying to find racers with multiple colors, stripes, just different stuff like this, but not necessarily these colors or just like it, but you get the idea:

Yes, more 917's, fewer Mustangs. A couple suggestions:

917-LH

917-20

bmw used to have a cool one on their 635's . it looked as if you could see under the skin.

(sorry... all i could find were the photos of a toy)
maybe you guys remember that . was great look for a racer , but still i like plain best. like those silver thingies, that the germs used to race in the 30's

NOW we're talking! These are great! I like the M-stripes going horizontally over the hood, that could be cool with the German colors...
The beef cuts on the 917 is hilarious, that was good

I like the Gulf car...

Any Martini cars?

I recall seeing a 914 racer in Excellence who did the psychadelic purple & green paint scheme on his car by buying that model 917 at a hobby store and using the green decal pieces and taking them to a graphic design place. Who inturn blew them up to a size he could use on his car. Great looking on a 914! especially in a widebody format! Here is some Martini and Rossi cars along with some others.
