1980 928 EURO 5 speed 'IS IT WORTH IT'
Hi all, I have located a 1980 928 EURO 5 speed. The guy is asking $3000. He said it needs a new radiator, it's pretty tough to put in second gear. The exterior is in good shape. The seats are pretty bad and the dash has the usual cracks. Is it worth it?
Forest Gray Service records from now back to 1984. Comes with 5 volumes of workshop manuals. Clean Title, 135,000 miles. Engine in great shape, with new tires, clutch, suspension, filters and fluid. Needs: New radiator. Current one has several leaks rendering car undrivable, must be towed off lot. The car could use new seats and some dash work.

$1500 to $2000 if you know what you are doing to bring it back.

I would be a bit concerned that the car hadn't overheated. Maybe add the cost of fixing it to the purchase price and if it doesn't display any symptoms of an overheated engine go ahead with the deal.

Depends on what YOU want. The radiator is $895 for a NEW all aluminum, trans rebuild is about $2500, no mention of A/C that can be $500-$1,500, nice seats add about $1,000 so you can EASILY spend ANOTHER $5,000 on the car. If you would be happy having $8,000 in your $3,000 car, Go for it ! Just be SURE that the engine has not been damaged from overheating because we all know ..... nearly EVERYONE tries to "make it home" when something BAD is happening.

Jim's got a great point on the overheating issue - especially if it needs a new rad. I would not touch it without a compression/leakdown test. Otherwise you might end up with a really expensice lawn ornament.
