Steering Wheel Squeaking
My GTS steering wheel has developed a very annoying squeak when turning.
This happened when I first got the car and I shaved some plastic from the rear of the wheel where it was rubbing against the pod. Squeak went away until now.
I would rather fix the problem for good this time. Anybody have the same problem on the 92 to 95 cars.
The earlier cars up to 91 have a bush 928 347 791 00 which can be replaced and solve the problem on those older cars. That bush is only available for 91 and earlier cars and not shown on PET for the later cars.
Any one BTDT please

Justin,
The GTS is a US car.
I am going to pull the wheel and look at what may be going on.
Those shims could be wearing out I guess.

Justin,
Thanks, I see it now.
I will pull the wheel to see if it accessable.
I gues this is a new issue with the later wheel.

Well the squeaking finally got on my nerves enough to do something about it.
Removed the wheel and found that the lip on the back of the wheel is rubbing against the cover = squeaking noise.
After inspecting the wheel and hub there appeared to be no play in the bearing that could be felt by moving the wheel.
I then removed the covers around the column. The top most cover was the culprit. It is held in place by two screws at the top (see pic). The bottom of the cover has nothing to keep it in place. For some reason it moves away from the column as you tighten the two screws at the top. I tried various washers behind the screw to try and get it to sit flush without success.
Finally I secured it in place with some strong packaging tape. The tape cannot be seen and is clear as well. Problem solved.
If it stays this way all well and good - if not I will have to fabricate a small bracket to hold it in place.
