Default It is not the odometer gear, what is it?

I replaced the odometer gear on my 86 5spd because it was the original and broken. All was well. 6 miles later, no odometer again. I took it apart again, the gear was fine. I put it back together and it worked fine again, for about 100 miles. Then it stopped again. I took it apart one more time and while I was in there I cleaned up the three plugs that plug into the cluster and the terminals that they snap onto. It worked fine for 113 miles and stopped again. The gear is fine and I am not resetting the trip while moving (whether that matters or not). Any ideas? Please?

That is possible. I looked at that the last time and it did not seem like there was any room for the gear to slip back and forth on the pin, causing it to not make contact. But I will try anything at this point.
