Default lma-3 AuxBox mounting location?

Have any of you found a good horizontal surface on which to mount Innovate's LMA-3 AuxBox out of the way?

Thanks,
Mark.

Yes... on the package tray on the passenger's side, right above the fuse panel, for easy wiring into the system.

Mount the LM-3 and any other peripherals you are going to daisy-chain into the system on a piece of particle board that is about 18" long and the same width as the package tray is deep, and everything will stay put quite nicely. You can wire the LM-1 into the system in the passenger's foot well and set it into the package tray when you are not using it.

To get the needed engine sensor wiring into the car, I used a 1.5" hole saw and drilled another hole into the passenger-side foot well right below the OEM hole for the O2 sensor penetration. I lined the hole with a bit (1" length) of small diameter radiator hose, and "Shoo-goo'd" it into place. It ends up well covered by the CAT heat shield (on the '87 car).

I stuffed around the wires in both the O2 sensor hole and this new hole, with RV window installation putty, which is urethane based, and sealed up the hole(s) from possible water leakage.

Mine should be here today. But sine the GT doesn't have the parcel tray, how about velcroing it to the EZK? Is there enough room? Hmmm... Looks like we should be having some fun over the next week or 2!

How'd you get it to stay within 3º of horizontal, so that the accelerometer would work?

I just shimmed under it using a simple level for reference.

Andrew, you have to be careful to keep it level if you plan to use the accelerometer. Frankly, I'll only be using it if there's nothing better to log. After tuning with the Shark Tuner I'll be doing a couple of "after" pulls on the dyno. Should be an interesting comparison to the before one

I just opened the box. No documentation! Thankfully it's all on their website.

I now see that it has to be horizontal if you want to use the accelerometers. So it'll be a bit of a challenge for me to find an appropriate place.

My first question is what did you guys use for the live-while-cranking power source? I think the fuel pump is live while cranking. Might be a good one to use. Don't worry, I'm not going to splice into any wires. I use these piggy-back circuits that plug into the fuse. Retains the original circuit and easy to remove.

Secondly, I'm looking at the wiring diagrams and do you guys know if the "Speed Sender" that goes in to the EZK is the RPM? Is this what I need to tap into for RPMs?

Andrew, I think my 86' has a TDC magnetic pickup sensor that should generate a certain number of pulses per crank revolution signal. My TDC sensor is not terminated to anything and is located just forward of the air filter on the rearmost intake runner. Your GT probably has the same sensor.

The best option may be to tap into the tachometer signal where it terminates at the EZK connector as you mentioned, simply because it is already inside the firewall. I am not sure of the pulses per revolution on the crank position sensor but you can easily remove the flywheel cover and count the number of teeth (pulses) that pass infront of the sensor head per revolution.

Alternately, if this data system has an inductive pickup like a timing light clamp, you could connect it to one of the plug wires.

Ben-

I does have an inductive pickup, but I was following Tony's writeup about hard wiring the rpm from one of the EZK leads. Our wonderful schematics do such a good job of telling you where things are.

Duh! Forgot to look at this! But again, I assume speed means engine speed, right?

Looks like for your 91MY the Hall Sensor (Rpm signal) terminates on pins 22 and 5 of the EZK control unit.

I think what you are looking for is the Hall Sensor, I think the speed sensor is ground speed.... someone correct me if i am wrong.
