Default Strange Throttle Problem

Hi everyone, I would really appreciate some help on this. I have an 88 S4 auto with a very strange problem. The firmness of the gas pedal seems to be linked to how the car runs from day to day. Sometimes the pedal is extremely firm, at these times the car will run extremely well. At other times, there will be a bit of play in the pedal, and the car will run ok. And finally, sometimes I will need to push the pedal close to half throttle before I get any acceleration, and it is listless acceleration . There don't seem to be any consistent factors to when the car decides to run badly. Lately the car has been running extremely strong, so I took it to the dragstrip last night. As soon as I started driving I could tell it wasn't going to be a good night. Got it there, and it's best was a 15.4 at about 93, while it's worst was a mid-16. All my cables are adjusted, and no one I've asked has heard of this problem before.

pop the hood. follow the cable to the jockey on the intake side. Follow the other cable to the back of the engine. remove airbox. follow cable. look for round spindle (white). look at exposed cable. is it touching/sawing anything?

There is a vacuum line rubbing against the exposed cable. Could that be the problem?

15.4 is really slow....it should be around 14.7 or better......

Heres some times from other 928's.....mine is the bottom at 14.54 for a bone stock 88 auto with an easy floor it and go start.....

Its weird that the cable would suddenly slack & then tighten up......so whens it slacked your not getting anywhere near full throttle or the WOT switch......cables do break occasionally.....might want to replace yours just to see how its run and get it setup right!

The car ran a 14.9 last fall when it was completely stock and needed a bunch of repairs. That's why this has been so frustrating an issue. I may need to try a new throttle cable. Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
