Post 85-86 ers! (exhaust system upgrades - RV)

If anyone has updated their exaust system I would like to have some recommendations! Has anyone updated to an X-pipe, do you keep the stock cats? Has anyone had a custom RBM made? Any suggestions/experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,

I had a x-pipe on my early '86, it gave about 25 more HP, and a real nice volume increase that sounded quite nice.

Motorsport x-pipe with out cats. Don't need em if your car is in tune. Will pass inspection. Adds around 28 bhp. Slightly louder over stock- but not a pleasant sound at full throttle. No way can you live with a RMB on the street. Your car needs at least one muffler.
There is no exhaust option on the market for the 85/86 model years unless you have a custom shop make you one

I have the same setup - or should I say I will have the same setup when Mr. FedEx delivers my package from Motorsport... I would have had it on the car yesterday but there was a signature delivery required, and now I have to wait until Monday.

looking forward to it

I include instructions with every X-over that cover it in detail, with photos. The 85-86's respond very well to the "X". Our Black 86.5' went from 246rwhp to 274rwhp with no fuel tuning or anything with just the addition of the "X".

I don't have a really good control because of lots of things changing at once (new O2 sensor at the same time and no dyno run), but I certainly felt the difference once I had the X installed (they left the O2 sensor disconnected, so I still had mixture imperfection and could still feel it). I don't know if its impact decreases with other mods (e.g. Autothority). I do know that the 86.5 I have now is significantly "peppier" than the 86 I used to have (which had a better-tuned, lower-mileage engine but no chip or exhaust...).

Here is a better view of the dyno runs, same day...same car...same gas...same dyno...swapped on the dyno while hot. The time between the runs was no more than an hour at the most.

I've had mine for about a month and it's great (the Motorsport X-pipe). I would suggest disconnecting the O2 sensor before dropping the existing pipes. I didn't and tore the wires out of the sensor. It needed a new one anyway, but if yours is is good condition you'd hate to have to buy one for making the bonehead move I did.

1) are the cats fairly transparent on the power curves?

2) Any results handy for 16V (preferably Euro). I'm currently running GT cats on an 83 Euro, and trying to understand the potential gains...

3) Any more progress on the 32V mani on 16V heads design?
Thanks

We have finished the adapter jig for 32v headers on 16v engines and the adapter is available. We are charging $139.95 for the adapter including hardware. An additional collector gasket is required for the right side and it's included also.
