I've got the 928motorsports Xpipe on my 86 5spd. It gave it a nice boost and a
great sound.
I heard an 86.5 with the Xpipe and the RMB That sounded great too, not
as loud as you might think.
I like the sound with just the Xpipe, a little more throaty than the 86.5 w/both
Xpipe and the RMB.

I am getting a lot of backfiring or 'popping' when I down shift and decelerate.
Does anyone know how I can tune the engine to avoid this?

Hey Rich...the 928Motorsports "X" is our item, Carl is kind enough to resell for us. You have the best one available.

Plugs are new, dist. caps are new, plug wires are new, fuel filter is also new.

Should I not be getting that 'popping' sound when decelerating? It did not do
this before the Xpipe.

Thanks,
Rich

Wish I could use the standard RMB but I was psyched when I found the Xpipe.

I don't mind the popping sound so much but a chevy gearhead here told me that it sounded like my car was tuned poorly and I was getting bad mileage... I told him I was just happy that it was running and I liked the sound. But it
did get me thinking about maybe retuning now that I have the Xpipe on.. but
I don't know how to do that.

I'll be able to let you know in a few weeks -- I am having my mechanic install new headers and an x-pipe (keeping the muffler). I'll post pics when it arrives.

You can put on a RRFPR (rising rate fuel pressure regulator) and a Arm 1 fuel ratio gauge to tune your engine with the added breathability of the X-Pipe. Kind of hard to do on the street so you'd put it on the dyno. Mark Robinson picked up an added 10 Hp this way on his '86.

Nice, that should sound awesome with headers too. Where'd you get
the headers, how much $$ and how hard are they to install?

Thanks for the tip on the RRFPR and fuel ratio gauge.. any idea how much $$ that is before I start
looking into it further?

You can get them at www.928gt.com

I think the arm1 is around a $100 and the RRFPR is close to that as well. Been a while since I bought mine.
