Hi Kirt,

No it is the same noise... I think the frequency of the noise suggest against a Crank/rotational assemby problem. DO rod knocks make sounds onceor twice per revolution?

I will try to make it to devek but my mom is coming to visit, I was supposed to go to the opera in the park and I am leavingtown for all of next week... but I will probably show for a little bit.

Great I will definitely bring my eprom burner...

Keep us posted on what you find out. Mine is making the exact same noise right now. Haven't had much time to start diagnosing it.

I have had three people who are 928 mechanics listen and they all seem to think it is a lifter...

I figure that I will have to pull the cams out and renew the lifters to fix this... so to fix a little noise it is going to get pretty expensive...

most have said to just drive it...

But I am locating some donor motors to start working with I have a new bottom end on the way...

I have a lifter noise but it goes away as the engine warms. I presume this is normal. I hope it is normal. This other stuff is scaring me.

Based on what others have written, intermittent valve noise is mainly an annoyance, and fairly common.

Sounds like a lifter to me. I'm not a porshe expert, but I have ruled out, and diagnosed bottom end issues by removing the plug wires one at a time to that bank. The lack of ignition will usually quiet down the bottom end impact. If it makes no difference, then it is generally valve train related.
