If you are a DIY go with my suggestion. If not bring it to a shop and let them do it...I'm still part owner in a shop so it warms my heart when someone will not use free advice.
LOL Abby ... I need to do this very soon, and had read the plastic bag procedure ...

Abby, I'm not saying one method is better than the other, I believe one of the objectives of this site is to offer suggestions so others may make a learned decision... it sounds like you are exactly the type of resource I was suggesting he uses!

For most tints, copulous (a word I invented...) quantities of water will do the trick. Windex is a close second if the water doesn't work. The extra fine steel wool or scotch-brite pad is cool on glass, so long as you aren't scrubbing heater wires. Otherwise a good songe will do fine. Those scotch-brite kitchen sponges are your friend for all windows except the rear. The goo washes out of them.

RESURECTION!!!

I may need to do this soon, but two questions come to mind:

1) Do the plastic garbage bags *stick* to the glass (tint). I don't understand what their purpose is.

2) Water - lots of water - Does that mean the glue used on these tints is water soluble.

Sorry - I have ZERO experience with tints. Where I come from they serve no purpose (you think Seattle is wet?) and only the dumb-*** kids put it on to look cool. I appreciate that in many arts of NA it is for comfort.

Help?

Well I'll be darned Glenn - imagine finding you here, or more correctly imagine my wandering my way over this-a-way.

You may have heard I bought a 2002 model 996. A real sweetheart of a car. Love it, but it may be too nice for what I have planned <evil grin>.

To that end, I may have a buyer for the 2002 996, and I have loosely lined up a 1999 model with a fresh engine. After all is said and done I'll be debt free and even have a few bux left over for mods <evil-er grin>

Problem is the 1999 996 has tinted windows, and we all know how heavy window tint is! So I searched to find out if it was removable, and lo and behold I find myself in the shark tank!

So you're still in the 928 - wow! How many miles on that beast now? I haven't been to *any* events in the last year. WAY too busy with work and kids. Now I find out I might be moving to Germany. That's in no way certain, but it's on the table. I plan to ship my Porsche over if I do move. Hell I may never come back !!

cheers

Removing tint really is a PITA job. I did it and liquids didn't seem to make a lot of difference. DO NO USE MADE IN CHINA razor blades. I broke a dozen on one quarter window before I was forced to use an old used Made in USA blade...that finished the rear deck window, the other quarter glass, and the side glass...and I'm still using the blade. The Chinese blades are too brittle and break easily. It took me about 4 hours. Do all you can to get the undercoat to peel off with the outer film. If not, the blade will still remove it. I bought and tried the tint remover liquid. Waste of money as it was no more than ammonia water, like Windex. I finally gave up on the liquids and just pressed extra hard, got a piece to strip and worked it off. Tedious but it can be done. Local guy want to steam it off and charge $200. I didn't want steam in my car. Not a fun job.

In real life, he's a nice guy. I was introduced to him at the Safari Club International convention in Vegas and we talked a while, although i don't show my foto with him or Bush to too many people. And I was warned to NOT joke about the potato thing, even though I live in Idaho. Then they say he's not so nice.

I'm sure he was a nice enough guy, but when I read a series of his malapropisms, one after another, I laugh till the tears are streaming down my cheeks. The best comedy writers in the world, could not have written funnier material. Let me share a few just for old times sake.
"I love California, I practically grew up in Phoenix."
"If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure."
"Welcome to President Bush, Mrs. Bush, and my fellow astronauts."
"What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind
is being very wasteful. How true that is."
"We don't want to go back to tomorrow, we want to go forward."
"A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls."
"Illegitimacy is something we should talk about in terms of not having it."
"We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur."
"For NASA, space is still a high priority."
"Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children."
"[It's] time for the human race to enter the solar system."
And my favorite...........................
"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the
impurities in our air and water that are doing it."

That's just classic stuff. Absolutely impossible to understand how a guy like that gets to be the second most powerful guy in the worlds most powerful (democratic) nation.

By spraying the inside of the tinted window with Simple Green FIRST, the garbage will then stick to the soaked window. Pull it in the sun for an hour or so and tint will com off. There will be glue residue to clead after that and a Dobie pad and simple green will get it off.
