Default side moulding pulled..and other stuff...

So..after looking at all the nice mouldingless 928's in our area with aero mirrors ..(PAC NW)...I decided to finally put on my aero mirrors..(been sitting in the box for ages..awaiting our local electrical colleague..goldknight ..to wire them up .)... and I took the plunge and yanked those beastly mouldings...
I can wait on wiring up the mirrors..since I never play with them after I set them.

I can say..even though the double stick tape is a bear to get off....blisters on the fingers from rubbing them off.....it is worth it...smooth 928 body lines...like was intended from day 1.....

All I need now is a good washing...and some 3m imperial hand glaze..and it'll be fine till our local AL welding expert (Al Blose) has time to weld up the holes..and then it will be into the body shop for some touch up painting..and a body color sand or something to bring back the black shine....

On another note...replaced my starter this am..thinking it was going bad (turn key to start position..and no crank..just dimming lights..)..but alas..it was not to be...so I started wiggling the key ...and it started to crank..and then wouldn't stop cranking...even with the key pulled out...so run back to the rear...and disconnect the battery (dang that negative cable bolt gets hot..ouch)...and then off to the pod..to remove the ignition switch..as that is the next likely culprit...

Another exciting sunny day here in the Pac NW....

later.
Tom

P.S.. pics soon to follow...

there are 2 ways...
one is with bondo (i think i''' do that)
the other is by welding ( i am not so sure about that, since you got to grind it all down and i am not sure what the alu doors will do then)

Bondo on the doors? Hmmm... Wonder how long that'll last. Maybe you can install one of those electrical door closing mechanisms, so that your doors are not subject to any harsh deceleration and vibration when closing. Otherwise, from all I know, I would expect you to see some round cracks in your paint soon.

Modern way to close the holes is to beat small compression at area of hole and glue piece of metal to cover it. Remaining uneveness on surface is then filled out with bondo. When done right this should last long time without cracking. Glues have come long way in recent years.

Yea yea yea Tom. I am going to wire those backwards for you now. Maybe link the horn into the window switch.

There are 3 of use up here in the PAC NW doing this and poor AL will spend most the day welding are holes up. WE will owe him many a beer i think.

Our track even is comming up in a few weeks and i doupt we will be welded by then. Hoping the cars dont wistle wehn doing 150mph donw the front straight.

What about gluing the piece on from the back side? Then you wouldn't need to put a dent in your door.

Fill the holes with SEM found at most auto body stores. This will NOT crack.
