Detroit Area Gang: Ann Arbor/Ypsi Get-Together 09/02!
Dear Sharkfolk,
I'm wondering if anyone might be interested in coming to Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti on the morning of Saturday, September 2 (Labor Day weekend) for a little exotic car revelry and QST (quality shark time).
We have been invited, as a group, to make a showing at the Milliken garage in Ypsilanti for it's monthly open house and get-together. The Milliken garage is a warehouse that quite a few serious car nuts and car clubs call home. Most of the cars are European, but the assortment runs the gamut from Model T, to Lotus, to Aston Martin, to Ferrari. Depending on what's out being driven, you're likely to find just about anything at the garage!
Porsche is represented, too, but only by the rear-engined varieties, which is precisely why we need to show up and represent the 928!
It's truly a great bunch of guys and gals down there, and they'd be very happy to see us in. Bill Milliken has said he'll line up the 928s in a parade row in the garage, so it'll look pretty cool!
Here's my proposal for an enjoyable Saturday morning and early afternoon:
10:00am: arrive at garage (coffee & pastries available)
10am - 12pm: enjoy touring the garage and "doing car talk"
12pm: depart for short, 1 hour, urban cruise around Ann Arbor area. Route TBD and announced via email (contact me if you're not on the OC mailing list)
1pm: lunch at Paesano's (www.paesanosannarbor.com), on the patio. Depending on the number of folks interested in the event, we'll go a la carte, or with a fixed price menu with only a few options. We can line the cars on the drive in front.
The Milliken garage is located at 884 River St., Ypsilanti, across the street from the EMU campus, on Railroad St. It is just north of Huron River Drive, the first right off of LeForge Rd (if you're heading northbound). Look for the hot cars!
Please contact me (chaadster@sbcglobal.net) if you're interested, so that we can get a decent idea of how many to expect.
If anyone has any questions or needs better directions, my mobile # is 734.657.2552.

I just talked with the camp director and she is okay with it. We’ll be visiting her sister in Milford. I don’t believe that is too far away. I will see if my brother in-law is interested as well since he is a car guy. 50/50 chance I’ll make it in my shark. We’ll see how the trip to Pentwater goes first.
I’d really enjoy meeting some fellow 928 enthusiasts and would love to get to see (preferably ride in) a supercharged 928! Hey Andrew what to you say… I’d gladly pay you on Tuesday for a ride in one today.

The Detroit Beer Nights are great fun! The amazing thing about this is that I spend more time with a 928 crew 1100 miles from my house than I do with the locals...who are few and far apart.
The company I work for, Kalitta Air, is really cool about loaning me a van so that I can get around Michigan when I sit around on reserve up there. Hey- a 928 get together in Ypsi-tucky? Hell yes! That's just a whole lot easier than procuring a map and trying to find my way to Royal Oak!
-One of these days I'm going to sponsor a Detroit Beer Night. Maybe I can talk the man who owns my company into letting me have a barbecue at the company headquarters- Connie is THE gear-head, and obviously loves V8 engines. And red wine...
* I'll try on this one, but no promises: Connie Kalitta just built a full motion, full visual 747 simulator at Willow Run Airport. I get to sit in it and get barbecued every 6 months....but I wonder if the "gear head" himself might give the group an hour or two to play around in this thing. This sim is approved by the FAA to the point where you can officially log flight time- feel like trading your 928 for a 747 for a few minutes?
Again- no promises. Let me see what I can do...

Be forewarned that's a Football Saturday. If you've lived in Ann Arbor for any time you know what that means. The game itself starts at noon, so the schedule should work. Most of the 100,000+ fans will be in the stadium by the time you start your drive.
I may show up, but I can only stay for an hour or so if I do.

Normy! That would totally rock!
You know, whenever you are in town, you should call me. I'd be happy to have you over for dinner and sice I'm litterally 3 min's away from Willow Run (North side), there's absolutely no good excuse for you to not bug me when you're in town. Wouldn't mind meeting Connie, either.

We've moved since then so it's not as much of an issue, but out of habit anytime anything is scheduled for Sep/Oct/Nov we check the football schedule. When our daughter got married last fall we told her to make sure she didn't pick a Football Saturday.

I think Normy ought to let us know whenever he's in town...it's always good to have an excuse for another 928 gathering.
As for this one, I'll be out of town on vacation.

Chaad, link this event to your new rocking web site. Can you get Randy V. to post this event as an "ADMIN" event. Would be great if we could get a few Canadian 928 lads and outstate 928 fans to come over for some hospitality.
