Default Another rear hatch Question

1988 928 S4

Just replaced rear receiver few weeks ago. Have been enjoying trouble free hatch lift untill tonight.

Pull Lever up and no sound of motor turning. Even with hatch open.

All interior lights work fine, with timer etc.

Both fuses are good that work w/the rear hatch.

Have tried both sides of releases with both doors open. With tool kit removed and hatch up when I pull release **** I think I hear one click.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????

Well if the interior lights work in all modes then the motor should at least run when you pull the switch. Test the switch by shorting the connection on the switch with a screwdriver. Test that the red wire to the switch is @ constant 12V. On the motor end test that the Brown/White wire is @ ground (~0 ohms) when a door is open (you will probably need to pierce the insulation with a pin for this?

It could just be that the motor is stalled due to an alignment issue. unbolt the 2 retaining bolts on the central strut for the motor and move it up/down a little. You may find pushing on the actuating lever a little (the exposed portion driving the release arm) will help free things up. If all else fails remove the arm altogether and/or remove the whole motor assembly.

If it still doesn't run - disassemble everything and check for damage and test the motor stand alone...

Got the arm un jammed, seemed to be working again. Wouldn't open hatch so went through adjustment procedure, motor stops working again, look for other jam, unhook arm all together, no work. How test the motor stand alone?? I unhooked it from everything, and no work, does it need chassis ground? When I pull the switch I hear a click.

Thanks for the help,

JG

Should not need a chassis ground for the initiation from the switch, try it though and see if it helps...

Dissassemble the motor & drive and look for any damaged gears...lube & reassemble if all looks good.

To test the motor stand alone - you need to totally dissassemble the unit and apply 12v across the motor terminals.

Have a cracked plastic piece in there seems to be binding it up (bushing?). I will see if salvagable. Thanks for your help.
