Default Chips

Hello All, I just recieved my Autothority chips for my 86.5 5 speed. The instructions left a little to be desired.I had to remove 3 screws from the LH unit to remove the board that the instructions failed to mention!! Removing the LH E-Prom I broke a piece of plastic on the bottom of the E-Prom frame (gulp). Installed the units back in the car and fired right up (Thank God).
Seat of the pants impression is more power. The main problem with a 928 is by 2nd gear I am really hauling a$$. If I run 3rd out jail time!!! Looking forward to getting out on the road to see how she really runs. Thanks, Kip.

At least you got instructions with your set. My ebay chips came in a plastic anti static bag and that's it. The installation is pretty straight forward but you have to make sure to intall the chipps in the correct orientation. If you are noticing the improvement now, wait untill the LH learns all the new parameters and then the real HP increase will start to show. The early 32Vs realy well to chipping. enjoy it!

Default Chips and tool

Have a clean workspace, GROUND the box and yourself before handling the chips. Been there and by the time I got them installed correctly the alu tabs (exterior) on both boxes were gone.

I have them secured now with zip ties, but not very cosmetic. Radio Shack has an "IC Installation Chip tool" well I know it says "IC" on the box. Two tools inside. One resembles large tweezers with ends bent for pulling chips. The other is useful for inserting the chip. With 8 IIRC pins on a side, they can bind and either the pins get bent or the wafer can break. the other tool is a plunger with flat plate so the pressure is applied evenly over the chip as you carefully push the chip assembly into the holes. You still need to be careful, but it's less than $10.00 and is useful. Each chip has a notch in one end so that needs to be observed at the outset. As far as identifying LH from EZF(K), I don't remember any characteristic.

The instructions made identifing easy. The circut board disassembly was the problem. Fortunatly the chips are in and the car is running. I will drive more this weekend and report the seat of the pants impressions. Thanks, Kip.

My authority chips are exactly what the Dr. ordered.... My 85 purrs but I did disconnect the battery for a second to recalibrate... avoids frustrations of not knowing if you installed the chips right... Took care of some surging and all good from the results.

You didn't really have to disconnect the battery. Technically you already did when the boxes were disconnected from the wiring harness.

It's amazing how well the early 32Vs respond to a chip swap.
