Default Power seat memory problem - 87 S4

Where is this done? Where are the settings stored?

My power seat memory remembers "something" for each of the 3 settings, but it's not what I programmed in, and it won't take new settings.

It behaves according to the manual, with lights etc, but no new settings are remembered.

Anyone know what voodoo is at work here? What "box" is broken?

Many thanks!

Box in question is under the seat, all the motors are driven via this box..

The box that drives the switches & LED's etc is actually the mirror memory module that sits in the drivers footwell above the hood release. This is then connected to the seat memory module & motor drive relays under the drivers seat. The control panel serves both features and seems to be working - so assuming your mirror memory works that whole unit seems to be working fine.

So the problem is most likely with the seat memory module itself or possibly the connection between the mirror module and the seat module.

Thanks Alan,

That is what happens, everything seems to work but the memory of the seat positions.

Do you know if the Big Boys have this item or is it somthing that can be repaired by me?
Sounds like you've gone down this road before

Well - hard to know if its repairable - But I'd give it a go. You can get replacements from the Big 2 but I expect they are expensive - finding trashed memory seats would be a start too - just remove the controller & test.

With yours - remove the seat and then check the connections fully and then re-test.

If that doesn't make any difference I'd dismantle the controller and take a look inside. Any obvious damage? If nothing is obvious use a soldering iron to reflow all the solder joints - this will take you a while and you will likely need some multicore solder too - you can get what you need at Radioshack.

It will be methodical but simple to do - then try it again. Check if the memory works correctly for some planes of movement but not for others...? if its gone haywire for all and this procedure doesn't help it probably needs a replacement.

Thanks so much Alan, I will do that over the winter I think since the seats have to come out.
