Question Replacing insulated air-intake tubes on a 93

Had such good luck with the tire question, now lets try this one. I need to replace the fiber, foam insulated air inteke tubes on my 1993 GTS. Dealer sent along the uninsulated plastic type but I wanted to maintain the original trhough the plastic ones may cause less turbulence without alll of the fibers, then again, the plastic ones step down to a smaller diameter...oh well....any ideas? thanks again! P.S. any OE jacks out there? Do they mount into the wheel well?

IIRC all the GTS style tubes do is try and cut down on noise.
Nothing to do with air flow or heat.

Do a search and there are some nice alternatives out there, some on eBay as well.
Dave Lomas sells the best ones IMOO.

The GTS ones are $150 - 200 each IIRC.
When mine give up I will be calling Dave Lomas.

I've did these tubes for my 94 GTS. Still have a pair or two left, as I had to by 25 feet of the stuff.

My late '91 model year GT came with the 'GTS' style tubes from the factory. When the time came, I went with the old S4 style tubes with no assometer loss of power. Since then, I have evolved to a force fed approach.

Bill,

I would like a set. How is the old beast running? I have been following your posts. It is great to see how well cared for the car is.

Take care.

Just don't buy the replacement Porsche stock ones... tear your old ones apart a bit... once you do that you can decide if you want to put that kind of crap back on again...

There are many options that will work just fine. Can't say I ever noticed intake noise on mine....

Stephen, so you bought the Aston Martin. First the Maserati, then an AM. When will you learn?

I'm driving to Stephen City tomorrow morning for Timing Belt/Water Pump/Adult Beverage shindig. I can bring a set of hoses with me.

Yes, my GTS is in great shape. Just put new Koni/Eibach's on a couple of weeks ago. I'm taking the backroads tomorrow, early am to really give it a good run. The A/C is blowing ice cubes.

Mambodoc,
You might look into buying 4 of the Mercedes intakes that are used on 560SL's and 560 SEC's of the late '80's. Two on each side fit perfectly, and look great (in my opinion). You can buy the connectors from Dave Lomas, or can simply cut a couple of notches in the small end of one on each side and it will slide inside the other nicely (I cut slits in the rear end of the front one and slipped it inside the front end of the rear one coming from the filter box). You also need to cut the small round holes for ventilation outlets on the cam belt covers. As I recall, they were about $25 - $30 for the set of 4 when several of us bought them from a local MB dealer 2 years ago. I replaced the OE tubes on my '94 GTS with these, as I think they look significantly better.

BTW save your GTS tube ends - either you or someone else will appreciate them to trim up the ends of generic type intake hose.

Search the archives - you will find many previous threads on the same issue. Generic hose of various types is available and works fine - cut to length and cut/punch the cam belt cover holes... All black is the easiest to find...

GTS ends dresses it up nicely as do inserts around the holes - but both are mostly cosmetic.
