Just purchased a 1985 928s 5 speed!! Got it delived to me from Cali to DFW, was told everything was good etc, etc... Well when i run the car I hear the chain rattling from the left passeger side cam area! Sounds to me I have to replace the cam tensioner?? Need tech advice, do i have to undo chain if repacing tensioner? Any pictures threads in the subject would be greatly appreciated. Just moved to DFW, anybody know a good 928 mechanic?

928 Owners are ".....a secret sect of quietly assured Porsche pragmatists who in near anonymity appreciate the prodigious, easy going prowess of the 928."
See the post DFW gang - lets plan something.
8:00am onwards at Einsteins Bagles, Lewisville.
Can you make it?
With or without your P car it does not matter.
Well when i run the car I hear the chain rattling
from the left passenger side cam area
Ummm chain?
it has a belt.
Maybe you could find some knowledgeable 928 owner living near you who could help you with the diagnosis?
What could sound like a chain? An injector maybe or a lifter?
Marton the 32 valve uses two chains each ties together the two overhead cams per cylinder head and as mentioned has oil pressure fed hydrolic tensioners.
If that is what you hear, it is not an expensive fix, but it will take some labor, but don't drive it til you know! Just a suggestion: nitpick "Left passenger side" could be confusing. on a US model the passenger is the right side of the car, as sitting in driver seat facing forward, use front/back to avoid the confusion of "left/right". If by "left passenger side you mean passenger side near firewall, then it may not be the chain. Picture in Section 15-120, the chain is near center. You might need a stethoscope to ascertain the location of this sound.
