Default Newb needs some electrical help

Newbie needs help with some electrical problems. I have a 88 928 S4 and the blower motor is only working on high speed. I think it might be the resistor but i dont know where its located. Another problem that i have is that my windshiled wipers are not working. I tried changing the Relay and fuse and nothing changed. And the final problem that i have is that my instrument panel lights are not working. I tried to get the manual for the car but the guy that has the PDF format is going out of town so he told me to post up and hope some of you can help. Thank you.

Djovani... where are you located ? Done any work on the car
so far ? How long have you had her ?

The 'resistor' is a single 'pack' of 4 in the duct on the forward
side of the firewall about a half meter from the blower motor.

Congrats on your 'shark'.

G'luck.

I have dealt with problems 1 and 3. 1 certainly sounds like a resistor pack failure and is quite common. The resistor is located on the centreline of the car inside the blower duct which is under the flimsy plastic panel ahead of the windshield. The only thing visible is the 6-pin (?) electrical connector. Te remove the resistor you have to prise back the rubber seal between the blower motor and the duct enough to get a small hand inside to forearms length. It cost me some skin. (A 10 year-old boy is a useful tool for this job!). The contacts in the resistor often get carbonised and are hard to clean. Replacement is recommended. To refit, attach the resistor to a long stiff wire and thread it back through the duct. If you test the resistor external to the duct do it briefly. It needs a flow of air to prevent overheating.

The instrument panel lights also have a resistor pack which is located in the area behind the brake pedal (My car is RHD manual so yours may be a bit different) It has a metal shield perforated with 1/4" holes and a conspicuous white electrical connector. This became disconnected on my car producing a complete panel light blackout. Plug it back in - fixed.

Hope this helps.

Thank you guys for the quick response. I found the resitor pack for the blower motor right after i posted the questions and i took it out. I am gonna try to find it at the dealer. As for the instument panel i will be looking for that resistor later on in the day. Thank you guys very much for the response now i gotta find the windshiled wiper problem.
BTW. I live in Michigan (Dteroit Area), i solved some other electical problems, also sent the brain to England for something a few years ago. Ive had the car for a while its been sitting here for at least two years so ive decided to get it back to good condition.

You probably won't find it at the dealer. Try www.928GT.com or www.928intl.com.

Since you're in the detroit area, not sure if we've met or not, but I live in the Canton area. This weekend (Saturday) we're having a big 928 picnic in Hell, MI near Pinckney. If you are interested, please read the first topic at the top of the page. Or you can email me and I will get you the details. andrewmolson"AT"gmail.com

Hope to see you there!
