Stan,
I would love to meet up, considering two things--I go to Auburn, and the fall is in the thick of fatball season, and also I can't say 100% sure that I will be 100% done with the car. My current goal is to have it finished and running by August 14th, but it will still need to be shaken down, aligned, and probably some other little things. I am hoping that I can take it on track sometime this fall.

Let me know what the date is that you will be coming to Atlanta; I race karts at a track about 30 minutes south of Atlanta (www.georgiasprintkarting.com), and if you are interested, you could come check it out and drive my kart depending on the date and if I will be at the race that weekend (can't miss a home football game!).

About the insert... the main reason I chose to replace the roof is because my goal is to have a pretty neat looking car once finished. It might get beaten up on the track, but I still want it to look good. Not that the insert looks bad; I just wanted to go all out and have no regrets once the car is finished.

Hi Mark,

I will let you know the dates when I find them out from my boss. Maybe we can make it work and seeing your track car in any state of repair, done or not, will be a treat for me.

I would like to say somehting that I believe will ring true for many on this forum and especially anyone building up a 928 car for whatever purpose to their own vision. Everyone has their own style and thoughts on what the car in question should look like and be at the end of the build up. This track car will be a memorable one for any that come across it. Your attention to detail looks quite good and your execution of the details also looks quite good. I also agree with your decision about the roof, I just wanted to explore a different way to tackle the problem of wieght on top of the car and came up with the insert. Works for me but not everyone will agree.

One thing I learned when I finished the build up is that there are many people with many different ideas and tastes. Some people really liked the end result of my efforts and some probably wondered why I spent so much effort on a 928 and an automatic one at that. But it was my vision and I have had a blast with it.

So have fun, build it up using sound methods and equipment and enjoy the result. You will never truly be done with it anyway as I'm learning. Please yourself and relish in the journey. I sure did. Can't wait for the next chapter!

Cheers,
Constantine
P.S. Before there is any confusion I don't go by "Stan" who is a real 928 racer and other member of our fine community. "C" is fine to shorten my three syllable first name.

[QUOTE=Red]If you say that is easier, you should go out and try it for yourself. What I did was pretty darn easy, and I only have about 8-10 hours of work into it. Try welding in a sunroof in that amount of time. You have to be a GREAT body man to be able to do that and not use a lot of Bondo (which would eventually crack with the use that a race car sees), and I am not that great of a body man--the guys that did yours may be. Also, keep in mind that my interior is bare. I didn't want that sunroof panel on the inside.

Look at the first picture and you can see where I attempted to weld in the sunroof but couldn't get it right without having gaps.

how true! who ever welded that sun roof has b@lls of steel. i think it's much easier to section the roof then weld in the sun roof. it must have taken him quite some time to weld that up without any heat distortion.

Sorry for the name boo boo, I think the reason I was saying Stan is because the magazine article called you Stan, didn't it? I didn't even think about what I was typing; I just did it subconsciously.

The journey is half of the fun! Thanks for the kind words, Constantine.

I'm going to close this thread so I don't have so many at the top. Look for another update on the rear wheel arches tonight.
