Default Anybody running x-pipe w/RMB on an 87 w/ Larger Resonators?

I know this subject has been beat to death, but I was thinking about going catless with an x-pipe and RMB. I have seen complaints about it being to loud, but was wondering about this combo with the larger resonators on my 87 S4. Has anybody out there with the larger resonators tried this combo??? Sound is a very subjective thing, and what might be offensive to one person might be sweet harmony to another. Has anybody used a lighter, and less restrictive muffler on the back in lieu of the stock one with a no cat x-pipe? I have a welder so I could make almost anything work. What about X-pipe, no cats, large S4 resonators with twin shorty glass packs on the back with chrome tips on the very end? I could easily make this work. If you took a poll around here (Central Texas), most people would say that glasspacks=redneck. But it might tame the sound just enough to make a really great sounding shark.

I had an X pipe on my GTS with no cats and standard mufflers until two days ago.
Very quiet, just a mild roar difference from stock.
Just replaced the cats for emmissions and the noise is even better to my ears.

On Ernies 91GT the noise was to much for my ears with no cats and GT resonators with an RMB.
You may be OK.
The extra ponies the X pipe brings are well worth it.

IMO the best rumble I have heard is the X Pipe, no cats and stock mufflers on my GT. Sounds exotic.

I also have X Pipe, no cats and 2 1/2" exhaust all the way back on my '90 GT but it sounds to... American V8

Hey now, ouch.

I have a Test pipe (H-pipe), '87 resonators and RMB and the souds gets compliments everywhere I go. V8 Rumble but at 4k RPM the roar is awesome. Sounds like the X-pipe gives more of a raspy sound and my H-pipe is a deeper sound.

I was hoping for some more current feed back/opinions. I did several searches but could not find the combination I was asking about. If somebody could attach a link......maybe I'll be the first to have a no cat x-pipe large S4 center muffler home made twin glass pack RMB shark.....lol. I guess thats kind of counter productive. Rear Muffler Bypass with two mufflers........

I have to agree. I did several tests last week on my 'S4 with different exhausts, X pipe, and cats. Pretty much like pmotts says. We all know what the stock exhaust with cats sounds like. The car makes about as much sound as an electric motor. 2.5" exhaust, aftermarket 6yr old and probably filled with carbon mufflers and X pipe is quite loud and obnoxious. Stock S4 exhaust with X pipe is still quite quiet, but a bit more sound than with the cat. GT style rear exhaust, small resonators with the rear muffler, and X is louder than the S4 exhaust, but not bad at all. You can't hear it at cruise. The GT rear exhaust gave only about 2 hp and 2 lb ft tq over the S4 rear exhaust. I would not use the small resonator exhaust with rear muffler bypass and X pipe. It'll be way too loud. If you must have the rear muffler bypass look, then use the larger S4 style resonators.

I started a thread on the same subject a month or so ago; search on my name and you should find it.

I have the motorsport X, not cats, GT resonators and a 928 SP RMB..........great sound but it is loud. I've now refitted the original rear muffler but now its too quiet. I do have a line on the bigger S4 resonators and may give them a try with the RMB again.

Thanks guys. I plan on fiddling around with this in the very near future. Stay tuned.
