Default Clay and Swirl Remover

Please forgive dumb question.

I am detailing my 85 928S for first time. After reading a bit I purchased a clay bar kit and swirl remover, both by Meguiars. My questions is can clay and swirl remover be used on rear of the car? Can it strip the paint? There are lots of swirls on the molded rear/bumper, but I do not want to create a problem.

Thanks.

Clay and swirl remover can be used on any painted surface. Clay can also be used on glass, plastic lenses (rear lights), wheels (chrome too) and any other hard smooth surface. Try to keep the swirl remover away from trim and black plastics.

Take your time and you'll be amazed with the results. Be sure to fold the clay frequently to keep a clean surface on the paint otherwise you may scratch the clear coat. Good luck and post some before/after pics!

The clay is used to remove deposits --ON-- the paint. Paint overspray, some bug and bird droppings, things that stand up above the paint surface. Perfectly safe to use it on the painted plastic rear section. You'll see the most value with use on the horizontal surfaces like the hood and roof, tops of fenders. You'll also see some benefit on the upper sides of the fenders, doors, and the rear quarters. Follow the directions, keeping in mind that you can substitute a thick foamy mixture of dishwashing detergent (not dishWASHER detergent...) in water for the quick detailer that Meguiars supplies. Float a thick wet film on the paint, and glide a little pancake of clay across the paint front-o-back on the car. Light fingertip pressure is all it takes. A few quick glides will knock off the little bits of crud that seem to accumulate on paint. Do not try to 'rub out' the car with the clay, just use it to get the little blobs and spots off that you can feel. Once those are gone and you can feel smooth paint, you are done with the clay. Wash and rinse the car again, dry it, then start with the polish, swirl remover if you need it, glaze, and finally your favorite wax if you use one.

In general, anything you use on the paionted metal parts is suitable for use on the paint on the nose and the tail.
