Default Boge sport shock confusion - '90 GT

Ok, so I’m trying to figure out what I need to order to get a set of ‘correct’ new Boge Reds (sport shocks) for my ’90.

The '87-'91 PET lists two front Boge ‘vibration dampers’
928.333.055.07 for stock, and
928.333.055.09 for the M474 or M637 options

For the rear, it lists
928.333.051.17 for M474 or M637, but only through ’89. The only other rear shock listing is:
928.333.051.16

I have a receipt for the replacement of my car’s rear shocks in 1999 at 74K miles (car now has 108K), the dealer used 928.333.051.16 (and charged $297 a piece…..)

As far as I can tell from the service records, the car still has the original front shocks, which are red, and the original springs all around.

A perusal of the vendor websites comes up with the following:

928 SP:

928.333.055.07 $125
928.333.055.09 not available
928.333.051.16- $110 if searching by model, $232 if searching the parts zone
928.333.051.17 296.50

928intl:

928.333.055.07 $125
928.333.055.09 $243
928.333.051.16- $110
928.333.051.17 not available

Pelican:
928.333.055.07 $136
928.333.055.09 not available
928.333.051.16- $116
928.333.051.17 $332

So- my bias is to keep the GT a GT and go with the ‘correct’ Boge Reds. But according to the PET, there is no rear ‘Sport Shock’ in 1990 (????)

Or do I forget it and go Bilstein/Eibach? The car will be 95+% street, 5% HPDE.

Thanks for any help/clarifications!

If you are replacing the shocks why not do an upgrade? Especially if you are going to track the car.

Rob,

I am about a week away from buying shocks myself. With the prices of the original Boge GT shocks, I decided to go Bilstein for $750 flat shipped for the 4. I am probably going to replace the springs as well with Eibachs as they are only $295 from 928intl.

Maybe we can do a shock replacement day or something

I have the Bilstien Eibach combo myself, and it is a good combo, but I would reccomend you try for the OEM . I think the Koni shock would be a better substitute for the Boge, as you can dial it in to suit.

I'm replacing my original Boge gray shocks as I write this. I'm replacing with Koni's and Eibach's. With Carl's adjusting tool, (really long T-handle allen wrench), I will be able to adjust the shocks on the car.

I'd upgrade all the way around to have a balanced setup.

I have a set of Boge red OE front sport shocks from a '94 GTS with 25K miles on them that I'll sell. One is perfect, the other has a small dent in the external shell, but that does not appear to inhibit shock movement. Buy the good one and get the dented one free!!!! $100 for the good one.

Send me a PM.
