Default Ca. smog test results, 84 Euro S engine

It was time again to smog the 1980 ex-Callaway turbo 928, with an 84 Euro S engine. California requires the smog test every other year. Car is put on the rollers, test is done at 15mph and 25mph.

The results are listed below. Test was done with a fresh tank of 91 octane gas, new fuel filter, 84 Euro S engine, no O2 sensor, stock 1980 cat and exhaust.

15mph, 2059rpm
%CO2= 13.4
%O2= 1.7
HC(ppm)= 88 (max allowed is 198)
CO (%)= 0.25 (max allowed is 1.29)
NO(ppm)= 264 (max allowed is 1304)
Results= PASS

25mph, 2329rpm
%CO2= 13.0
%O2= 1.7
HC(ppm)= 97 (max allowed is 166)
CO (%)= 1.01 (max allowed is 1.09) Very close on this one!
NO(ppm)= 132 (max allowed is 1164)
Results= PASS

Just for comparison, here are the results from 2 years ago. Notice that the rpm at 15mph and 25mph are lower, must have used a higher gear.

15mph, 1474rpm
%CO2= 14.8
%O2= 0.1
HC(ppm)= 142 (max allowed is 198)
CO (%)= 0.74 (max allowed is 1.29)
NO(ppm)= 324 (max allowed is 1304)
Results= PASS

25mph, 1769rpm
%CO2= 15.1
%O2= 0.1
HC(ppm)= 30 (max allowed is 166)
CO (%)= 0.17 (max allowed is 1.09) Big difference here.
NO(ppm)= 272 (max allowed is 1164)
Results= PASS

So, I'm all set for the next 2 years

Rich you might try to find an 85-86 (early) "dual cat" side by side dual exhaust system to let some more of those Euro ponys come out to play....

Jim, I have one. It usually runs with an 87 S4 cat into a single 3" Borla exhaust. Added about 30rwhp according to dyno comparisons. I put the stock exhaust on for the smog test. I love the sound with the dual S4 cat and Borla's, whereas I hated the sound of the X-pipe and Borla's. (no dyno with x-pipe though). The stock 1980 cat/exhaust really puts the squeeze on the engine, very noticeable, but it does pass smog.
