Default + Brake Dust +

Just replaced the rotor and pads on my 84.
The pads(front) are PAGID and are OEM for BMW M3.
Within a couple of hours drive, my front wheels are full of that black dust

Short of changing them (wich I won't) anything I can do, or with time they will stop "sheding"???

Once you get down to the backing plate, you should be fine.

It's comedy hour! I put a set of porsche pads on my GT after having a set of performance friction pads on. The porsche pads stop it better but the dust drove me crazy so I put the old pads back on. I'll put the porsche pads back on for the track.

pagids and OEM BMW shed alot of brake dust. Ive used some various other pads on my BMW with much better success. When it was time for pads on the Porsche, i did a quick post and was overwelmed with Metal Masters. I was not dissappointed so far after a weeek and actually no brake dust.

I'll second the Metal Master recommendation. If you want a pad that's a little more rotor-friendly, yoo can get the same pads in non-metal formula from 928 Int'l. More thhan adequate for road driving, and just about no dust at all.

Thanks for the responces,
I will have to live with it, as they are replacement for others that were suposedly crap according to my wrench who is the one that instaled these. Will ride them hard for a couple of seasons and the next ones will be MM...

note to self : ask BEFORE buying....

I (and when I say "I", I mean Garth) recently put some new Ceramic Pagid pads on the front and the dust is overwhelming.

I do like the new black rims though.......

Change them now. Pads are relatively cheap and relatively easy to change. No reason to suffer through all the wheel-cleaning, tire dirty, wheel-well dirt, etc. Most of the work changing pads is getting the car up and the wheels on and off. Pads take minutes to change after that.

Dr Bob - Are these the "PBR" pads?
I just repalced all the pads on my '81 with these and they seem pretty clean (~130 miles so far).

Cheers,

They come with a few brand names. I know that "PBR" and "Axxis" names show up on them, and there may be others. Give Jim a call and tell him I sent you... I was down there early last week for some bleeders to have on standby for our Saturday fluid-flush session, and the discussion spiralled downward towards brake options. I mentioned the Metal Masters on my car and the rotor wear. Jim suggested that the non-metal version that they carry is a lot kinder to rotors. Generally, a metal pad will offer a little better pad-fade resistance aftre multiple hard stops, but the factory didn't feel that need with the originals. The way I drive, I could easily do with the non-metal version too. That will happen next time, along with a new set of rotors.

I agree.

Install the original Porsche pads as they'll work best on the street, and do so with the least amount of dust.
