Default emissions tuning?

i have an 83 us w/ 84 euro engine, headers going thru a high flow cat to a borla exhaust...can't pass emissions.

only reason I had the cat put on was because I was hoping to pass easily. is there an easy way to make the car pass then reset it? I remember someone mentioning how to do it but forgot.....

else I'm going to hand over $150 to a mechanic to "verify" it won't meet emissions and then the state will issue me my tabs.....

thanks
Sean

Hmmmmm, my guess would be the cat isn't quite up to the job. I have the same engine in my 1980, and it easily passed the last 2 times it was tested. (In fact, I have to smog it on Monday) This was with the stock 1980 exhaust and cat. Since you have headers, you can't just bolt on a stock cat and exhaust just for the test. Also, I have a 1987 S4 with headers high flow cat and Borla exhaust, it had a hard time passing. As far as tuning the 84 Euro S, I'm not sure much can be done. Perhaps post your numbers and someone can point you in the right direction.

Good luck, Rich.

I don't know what model high flow cat you have, but I just passed NY state emissions on a loading dyno simulating hills, acceleration, deceleration, steady state under load from idle to 56 mph with my SC'd '89 GT. This was with motorsports crossover with cats, and the Murf SC stage 2 system at 32 psi (fuel pressure) @ idle/30# injectors. Much harder to pass than just an idle test or even a steady speed 25 mph test. At the least have the car good and warm before testing, mine sat for 40 minutes prior to the test.

Good luck,

Jim
