Default Quarter flares

Hey guys.
Anyone ever consider grafting 2nd gen. rx-7 quarters(partial) on their pre-GTS? Surprisingly, they are quite similar to our cars. I just cut a pair off at the local yard, and they look like they will work with minor fabrication. They look very much like the GTS quarter flares. As some of you know, I had a mishap with to-wide-tires on my s4 and wanted a flare that would compliment the car and still retain a 928 flavor. I considered Louie's flares(excellent quality there) but found them a bit radical for my needs. I tried to buy f-glass Gts quarters from a Florida based vendor, but they were a tad untrustworthy. So I spent the morning looking around the local yard with my handy tape measure and came across the 2nd gen rx-7. any thoughts?

Having installed Louie's flares myself, I'd be loath to install something not designed for the car. The amount of fairing I had to do was still tremendous...and they were perfectly matched to the car. I could only imagine how much "a little fabrication" could amount to in time spent by retrofitting something that doesn't fit to begin with.

Maybe I should have elaborated. The section I am using is only the lip and about 5" surrounding, most of which will be flange. I get into some very detailed fab so I maybe should'nt have used the words"a little fabrication" . By the way Andy, your s4 looks great, I like what you have done so far!

Hard to comment without seeing a picture of it held up against the fender. I experimented with a similar idea back when I made my alloy track car flares. I just never found quite the right look.

I'm interested.....throw up a picture!

I wish I still had those RX-7 fenders with the whole car attached. Was one of my favorite cars I've ever owned...

And when they caught me on photo radar, they claimed I had been speeding in my "Porsche"... Tells you how Mazda fooled the public with that mixutre of 928 and 944 look...

Hope you can make those fenders work. One of the issues you will face is that the RX-7 fenders have a different shape of the arch and surrounding area, compared to the 928 models. You might find that a little bit of a squarish arch suits the 928 better, while a rounder arch makes the rear look too massive.

Consider playing with Photoshop before making this final.

Hey Tass, as soon as the holiday is over I will trim them to and do a lay up and post the pics. Looks like it will work though, so far.....
