Loose passenger side mirror
Actually it's beyond loose.
Sunday was the first annual "Sportscars to Saline" car show and as I was getting the car ready the mirror housing - which had been somewhat loose - came completely off the base.
Takiing it apart it was obvious what had happened - the threaded pin had that holds the two pieces together had unscrewed itself. After fighting with it for 1 1/2 hours I managed to get if back together, but only by leaving out the nylon (?) washers at both ends of the spring. At least that let me take the car to the show.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to get it back together the right way. As is I can't get enough compression on the spring to get the threads on the pin and the housing to mesh. The problem is the electrical cable running through the middle of the pin. The connector on the end is too big to fit through. It seems the only way is to remove the connector by popping the individual pins. I found some reference somewhere to the part number for the tool to do that, so maybe I'm on the right track.
Anyone else have a better suggestion? Otherwise it's off to Radio Shack...
