Ca DMV code ..."5201. License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging , ( )1 shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible. The rear license plate shall be mounted not less than 12 inches nor more than 60 inches from the ground, and the front license plate shall be mounted not more than 60 inches from the ground, except as follows " So swinging is frowned upon ....no minimum heigth on the front . and the driving lights are probably not legal either...in Ca.

Since I have no front bumper, I made this to hold the lights, and the hinged license plate. "

Would the lights mount IN the bumper, between the other lights?

Higher, and with a "transparent white" panel, discreet.

4537 bulbs are 100w, 12 volt landing lamps, fit in a standard USA quad headlamp setup.

They will peg the light meter with an audible click during a state inspection...

Who sees the front plate at over 30 mph? I mostly care about appearance standing still. All that aside, I really like your placement of the plate into the grill area, rather than on the bumper. My recent collision has given me a chance to move the plate into the lower grill like you did.
Thanks,
Dave

I do like that look even if it loses some functionality.

I've been thinking about this again, recently. Mainly for a reduced LIDAR profile. It would make my black car nearly invisible (dark colors don't reflect well), or at least increase the effectiveness of my laser detectors/jammers.

I'm thinking of using a motorized retractable plate holder, mounted to pop out of the grill, but wired to hide itself with a switch, or when turning the key to 'on', not a remote. (I'll probably have to put in some limit micro-switches, or something, to do this.)

On the white car, I thought about putting a black rectangle behind where the plate would be, which would show with the plate retracted. Or, have the motorized plate holder come up and hide the state plate with a 928S plate.

Porken, I'd use your current setup and add an electromagnet. Then it can flip up and stay, or be dropped on demand.

Ken, I think they look great. They look perfect for the rallye cars of the period. How well do they work at night?
