Default Temp. Gauge-'90GT

What should the temperature gauge read at normal driving? Mine is on the last white line. Well over that line when racing car.

Sounds quite normal - as long as it stays out of the red your fine.

That's where mine sits.

Chris, my 94 GTS runs normally as shown below, about 2/3's up from the middle white line. I figure it's about 195 F. I'd think the GT is about the same. I'm running a new 83 C T-stat. It's runs about like this, even when it's 90+ outside, with the A/C on.

If you track a lot maybe you should go to a cooler thermostat? Running on the last white line doesn't leave much room for error, IMO.

Using a pyrometer 195F shows as the 3rd white line on my gauge.

It seems most 928's like to run between the two white lines (170-195).....it varies with MY and thermostat choice.....generally if you are driving hard in hot weather with the A/C on then you can expect the second white line or slightly over...... Typically mine runs just over the 1st line (75 thermo), but with the A/C & high ambient temps....it will climb to the second line (never seen over it though)

I think you also have to take into consideration that these gages are not all that accurate. Between the lines on one car might be the same as the second white line on another car.

The 90/91 GTs run higher in temperature than the GTS.
The GTS will run in the middle like the photo, however the GTs run on or just above the second white line as Andrew said.
Ernie spent a fortune trying to understand why his GT ran higher only to find out it was normal.

Thanks for the research, Ernie
My 90 GT runs in the middle of the 2 white lines but I don't which thermostat it has. My 91 GT runs on the last white line.

roger, do you mean higher in actual temperature or just in indicated temp? ive changed engines in my 86 up to a GTS but the dash is the same (so far). the two engines run at the same indicated temp on the dash which is the final white line, mostly although sometimes below this, it seems random though.

The gauge hands can be moved too.

I unknowingly bumped the gas gauge hand when I R&R'ed the gauges, so I'm always approx. 1/4 tank higher than shown. Doh!

My 91 GT runs on the last white line, might even get a hair over it in 100 degree weather and some traffic.

Same with me, last white line or just below. with AC on and hot day just a bit over white line. Looks bad, runs good.
