Default Is this one worth a gamble?

Check this out:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...en&cardist=855

I know, it could be a nightmare. I talked to the guy and he doesn't know anything about 928s, but he's nice, and he says it runs great... so of course I believe him. But at that price I figured it may be worth shipping to me and taking the gamble. The carfax checks out... that is to say nothing was ever reported. But the odometer readings are good, and it did go in for service pretty regularly.

Anyway, what do you all think?

Pics look good, but they are so grainy you could hide a wealth of issues. I'd say it's worth looking. Make sure you ask some educated questions before you jump on a plane to inspect. DO NOT buy unless you get a PPI. I know it seems silly to spend 5-10% of the value of this car on a PPI, but the alternative is 100% and possibly more. Good luck.

I think you need to get in touch with the Dallas Forth Worth 928 guys and have one go LOOK at and DRIVE the car ! Roger in particular might be interested in seeing a 5 speed automatic !

Thanks for the feedback guys. If anyone is in the area and wouldn't mind going to check it out, I'd gladly pay for your trouble. If it turns out to be worth it (and driveable), I may fly out to drive it back, and while there the drinks will be on me.

drive it and if it seems fine, doesn't make any funny noises, doesn't smoke, no milkshake in the coolant tank, just buy it. if you buy it and there is some major problem you were unaware of, just resell it. your total exposure will probably be around 1k.

i don't think your gambling if you check it out first (rennlist/ppi) but killer deals are usually found in CL or the paper where there isn't many listed and someone has no idea what something is worth. If your smart enough to post on Autotrader, your smart enough to look up what others are selling for on there and im not sure, regardless of your 928 knowledge, you would have a 'nice' 85 for under $4k on there

Well the pictures look okay.......for that price, you can't expect much......but if it drives & most stuff works.....it could be a good driver with a bit of time and $$$

Thanks for all the input everyone. It sounds like Roger may have time to check it out on Saturday. I can't thank him enough for his willingness to help out. So, depending on what he thinks, I will go for it if it's not all that bad. I don't mind putting money into it if it's got potential.

Thanks again all,
Dave (Moe Szyslak)

I'll try to swing by tomorrow, I'll be in the Ft. Worth area anyhow.

I just looked at the location of this car and it is in an area, how shall we say, that is full of...hmmm.......questionable car lots. I'll swing by and take a look and get some pictures if I remember the camera.

Not trying to step on any toes Rog, but I will be in Arlington and Ft. Worth and this might just save you some time.

Hey Sean, thanks for considering dropping by to check the car out. If you do swing by there, I look forward to hearing what you have to say. That's funny that that area has some 'questionable' car lots. I know of an area like that here in South Carolina, so if the news is bad, it'll be understandable.

thanks again,
Dave

Jeez, this close to Roger, I'm surprised it's still offered for sale.

I would go hash with it but I'm in Norcal this week. I bought my POS off one of those questionable lots, and I got a killer deal, but it's important to be careful.

Good luck Dave,
