It sounds a great buy for less than £1800, if the g/box does need rebuilding it will cost £700 for the rebuild & £300 for the removal/installation labor or a good second hand g/box would be about £250/£300
Plenty of 928 owners in the UK have non working A/C , its nice to have it working though.
Worst comes to worst you could break it & get your money back.
Good luck
John

PS. I know somebody who would go & look at it for you if its in the west London/M4 area

C.F Thanks for that buddy my thoughts exactly. Even if the box is done in if I pay for the rebuild say £1000 all in. Then I have a very tidy car.

I can wait a couple of months to do the belts, tensioner and pump.

The only other concern is TT condition and thrust bearing, also the head gaskets. I am sure someone with good knowledge would be able to spot it.

Hopefully I'm onto a winner here.

C.F. Who would you recommend to carry out the box rebuild or any work of that nature?

Also I would very keen to get intouch with anyone who could help me look at the car. I am in Wimbledon SW19

Please e-mail me with the details to: Dyno_Soar@hotmail.com

I'd be keen to meet up with any 928 or Porsche enthusiasts.

I love this ..."I can see myself driving to Italy over the Alpes in my 928 right now If its this car or not remains to be seen." ....... It is just a matter of time. Good luck with the car your enhanced description and desire to do your own work indicates that you do want to take on a hobby/project and this just might be the right car ! And I was not offended by any of your comments and realize that I have at times told people that they have an "ugly child " but the point is I have zero emotional attachment to someone's prospective purchase.

Jim, Thanks again for the comments, I have learned alot about 928's in a very short space of time. I thought I knew plenty.

Unfortunatly the 928 I was looking at was sold. It sold for £1000 including the 2 sets of wheels to a dealer I was told. Damn, I was too slow but it was better for me to err on the side of caution. Oh well at least I have gained lots of valuable information with regards to the cars in general.

I think I want a late Manual S2 in Black, I had the pleasure of being driven around the streets of Le Mans in a manual 1992 GT and it was a real supercar .... anyway the search continues.

Thanks all.
