Default A/C Compressor Oil Capacity - How Much?

I know the 6E171 system contains 280cc of mineral oil (R12) and I've found in the seaches that it's recommended to put about 40% or 110cc mineral oil back in the compressor after it's rebuilt and another 10% or 28cc for the dryer. Good info and that works out to about 8.5 cubic inches. Wonderful but how can I convert that into either cups or ounces? Do I just pour it into the bottom of the compressor before I put the end back on? Thanks

not sure how to convert cc, but if you get a seringe(sp?) it will be listed on there or you can try googling the conversion. Yes you just put it in the bottom of the compressor before you put the compressor back on

110 + 28 = 138 cubic centimeters, which is 138 ml, or 138 grams if the specific gravity of the oil is close to 1. Since a 12 oz beer is 355 ml , 138 ml is 4.5 oz, or 3 shot glasses.

All the metric to Imperial conversions I do are based on numbers printed on beer cans and peanut butter jars.

That should be close enough.

Thanks everyone for your response. My wife caught me taking out her measuring cup and made me use the dirty one in the garage.

Default r12

I just installed a re-built 6E. The vendor said 9 oz. Put 3 in the compressor, 3 in the dryer and 3 in the condensor. Turn the compressor by hand to distribute it as much as possible.
