Default alternator resister specs

Any one know what exact resistor is needed to complete the alternator circuit (it sits behind the voltometer in the dash pod). Apparently its bad.. voltometer doesnt work until high rpm: instrument lights "blip" on only for a fraction of a second when turning on car (they work normal if I remove the resistor). The voltometer bulb "appears" ok (but doesnt ever turn on). I was told the resistor should be a 5 watt, 68 ohm. Is this correct??? Anyone know best place to get it? My local radio shack doesnt carry anything near this rating.
Also, the voltometer bulb (inside the guage) appears hard-wired to an electrical plate. Anyone know if this bulb-plate combo can be replaced as a set or do I need to re-attach a new bulb to the old plate??
