Default FINALLY new wheels...Carerra III's

Well after quite a long time trying to decide which wheels to get.....changing my mind about a hundred times I bought a takeoff set of Carrera III's....came off a 2006 997 with about 20 miles on it...just long enough to drive the 997 from the dealer to a buddies shop to change the wheels!! They are in GREAT shape...not a scratch on them & the tires still look brand new! I was concerned about the fit with a 235/40 front tire (18x8 et 57 rim)....but it fits just fine...no rubbing at all even at full lock going down the driveway! The rears are a touch too tall for a 928 at 265/40...so the speedo will be a touch off....(6.7%)..but thats okay. Both front and rear went on with no problems...no spacers...nothing....fit is perfect and no rubbing issues at all!

I was also concerned that the ride would be rough....turns out the ride is about the same or maybe even better.....granted my "Oshtu" tires before were not exactly a good tire, but they were worse than I thought!! Another nice fact of the 18"s is the much improved off the line acceleration! Before if I did anything more than 1/2 throttle when coming off the line on a 90 degree corner (say a stop merging into traffic)...I would just sit there and smoke the inside tire something horrible (open diff).....NOT with the 265's....it just grabs & jumps forward....MUCH better than before....again my old no name tires really sucked! Handling is better too....the steering has about the same weight too...I also thought it would be much stiffer than before....

Here are a couple pics....I should have center caps by the end of the week...hopefully for Sharks at the Lake!!

Nice.

I was going to recommend putting a couple coats of Rejex ( or other wax) on the insides to make it easier to clean 'em - but you already installed them.

No center caps?

Randy
I did put on coat of Rejex.....that stuff works great!! I should have center caps later this week!

Another item is the wheels weight....my old wheels weighed 42lbs each (front and rear were the same?) The new ones are 43 front & 53 rear....so a net gain of 24lbs....which really isn't bad!

Hi I have the same wheels I am finding that the front tires seem to kick up stones and i have a few chips in my doors so I installed some stealth front mud flaps Uhh cringe, but in real time they blend in very well and unless your looking for them they cant really be noticed also i put clear bra on both rocker panels in a 6 inch wide band from the edge of the bottom of the door jamb to the bottom of the rocker panel, I also noticed that the rear tires are wearing quite a bit , probabaly due to the heavy fooded driver , i have the factory Bridgstone Potenzas, and mine came with the 4S center caps so they could almost be construed as the correct cap for a S4. Yup the wheels are made by BBS! The suspension took a little while to settle....in the pics it is about 1/2" higher due to the recent wheel change and slight incline of the driveway...it should settle a bit more.

Brian,

Nice wheels, but the car is too clean and sets up too high (at least for me).
