steering rack questions
I have just removed the boots off my steering rack to replace them and found that they are full of power steering fluid. While under there i manually moved the rack back and forth by pushing the tires so i could see how bad it was leaking. after a few cycles of side to side you could see some fluid on the shaft. My question is: is this normal or is the seepage a sign to replace or rebuild the rack? when an inspection is done do they move the boots to see if the rack is leaking?
Thanks,
James

Fluid leakage is a problem only because:
1) You get tired of adding fluid.
2) You get tired of spots on the garage floor or driveway.
3) Your girlfriend's husband start noticing spots on his driveway.
Replace the boots, keep an eye on the fluid level (Dexron), and replace the rack when it gets to be a problem.
