Default Gas smell from under hood - Identified!

I have been smelling raw gas for a little while in my engine compartment. I finally found the source. The " Y " connection for the vacume lines that go to the fuel pressure regulators was totally rotted away and had gas in the line coming from the passanger side regulator. So I found two issues. The first is the vacume line issue and the raw gas in the vacume line wihch means the regulator is shot. I wonder if the lack of vacume would causse the regulator to fail or if the gas coming from the regulator is what caused the " Y " connector to rot away. Any comments?

gas probably rotted the rubber connector, they last a long time if they dont see hydrocarbon in liquid form, make sure you check all of the other vacuum systems for fuel leaks and not holding vacuum

From what I can see, all the other vac lines are ok. I found this problem when I pulled the vac line off the fuel pressure reg to see if it had gas in it. No gas on the drivers side reg, but also no vacume. I pulled the air filter housing off to follow the vac line and that is when I found the rotted "Y" connector and gas coming from the other regulator. I am guessing the fuel pressure regulator is something that should be replaced with a new part rather than a used one.

Good thing you found it when you did. Fumes and rotten rubber eventually end up with a fire. I passed what looked like some kind of ricer car on I-65 at the Brentwood exit this morning. Burning merrily. Gave me the shakes! That was the exit you took when you left my house and headed on your way back home.
