Here's the link for the company selling the Mustang. I guess if I had to hit one, at least I picked a nice one.

Let your insurance guys handle the claim from the guy you bumped. As tempting as it is, you really don't want to be in the middle.

Most insurance co's won't pay attention to the aftermarket mods done to a car, and will only value the basic Mustang. After that, it's up to the insurance co's to duke it out over "value". Lots of folks start off with a basic easy-to-insure ride, then option the hell out of it with aftermarket pieces. No 928 owners have ever done that, just other cars' owners. Anyway, their insurance carriers are still insuring the $20k Mustang, not the $50k "custom" with paint, engine mods, suspension, tires and wheels, etc. Anyway, with luck, the guy will come out of this OK if he can document all the improvements he's made. You should be OK if your carrier can squeeze the Mustang costs from the Taurus' owner. I guess that's why we pay the $big$ for 928 insurance these days.

Good luck Mike! I was really sorry to hear that your car was damaged. It's one of the nicest GT's I've seen, and deserves better than the Taurus mating ritual. Don't be afraid to get yourselves checked out by your own doctors when you get home.

Mike - Ouch! Sorry to hear about this. You may want to take a peek in your battery box just to make sure your battery and cabling is not compromised. Hope everything works out well. Those are some sweet looking wheels you have there.

If as you mentioned the rear cover of the Mustang was fiberglass then the car was no longer street legal with the removal of the crash tested and approved flexible rear bumper cover. There are no exemptions for removing federally mandated safety/collision equipment...The damage to the Mustang could then arguably have been made much worse due to the illegal modifications ! But the guy who hit you is responsible for the damages to the Mustang , it should not be your problem at all.

That's good info to keep just in case but I'm not expecting any problems from the owner of the Mustang. He acknowledged that his claim is against the Taurus driver. He was sick about his new Mustang being damaged but he also felt bad for us and commented on how nice the 928 was. He told Taurus guy that he picked the two nicest cars in town to run into. I couldn't argue with that.

All kidding aside, that sucks...same thing happened to my 944 a long time ago...getting the rear 1/4 straight will be the issue.

Mike : Glad to see that you still seemed to enjoy the event, even with the mishap.Your sense of humor kills me, I saw an extremely old gentleman driving past us while were biking and your discription flashed in my head (crypt-keepers grandpa) causing LOL. By next year nobody will be able to tell what went down!!

I got a peek under Mike's bumper cover.
Looks like the Taurus rode over the nice RMB.
Right side exhaust hanger was ripped and exhaust was dangling by just the left hanger.
Forgot to look further forward to see if there was any crinkled exhaust tubing.

Hope you and the lovely missus do not have any lingering neck/shoulder injuries.
When my Audi took a 30mph hit, trunk was shortened and fender was pushed into
rear tire. Not driveable.
928's are built solid and drive solid.

Really glad you decided to come anyway. That you were able to drive the car and have fun anyway says a lot about the car, but more about you. Can't wait to see the new paint !
