I am thinking of trading the suburban for a magnum srt-8......The sub get horrible gas mileage and I dont use the room the subhas any more.......My stable consists a 06 Jeep grand Cherokee 2wd, 95 z714x4 the 89 928 and 93 volvo..


Whats your thought on the SRT-8 vehicles.. thanks

I don't own one but I spent almost an entire day test driving all those Hemi's one day. They make for an exciting drive no matter which one you drive. I didn't much like the look of them at first but after driving them, I liked them much better. I decided that keeping my BMW's were am more cost effective decision and it allowed me to get my shark.

I get tops 17 MPG Highway on my 300C Hemi - NOT an SRT-8... everyone I talk to gets the same... the window sticker said 18 City - 24 Highway! Chrysler LIES about their mileage and will not do anything about it... SRT-8? No way to get better mileage... better off with a Vette ZR1, it actually gets 28 Highway 18 City.

 

I think the Magnum SRT8 will be only slightly better mileage than the suburban.....but way more fun to drive!!

 

Been in a few of them at work. Horrible gas mileage and forget spinning the rear wheels. Fun to drive though!!

 

I've heard that the EPA testing procedure will be drastically changed. Too many complaints that their ratings are extremely inaccurate. At the local Chrysler dealer they have a 300C (non hemi) with a huge "35mpg" sticker on it's sides........ this is total BS. Even if you are in neutral and rolling down a looooooong hill you wont get 35mpg.

 

Two weeks ago I was in the UK. I rented a Ford Fiesta 1.4 diesel. I covered over 600 miles mostly on the Motorway (Freeway). I criused at 85 to 100 mph most of the time and returned over 60mpg.
Thats what we need in the States???????????

 

Magnum cannot tow $hit. Else I woulda bought one a while back. It would have looked cool to have a black magnum towing my black GT to the track.

 

They are already here. All the VW TDIs get +50mpg. The diesels of today are nothing like the old, smelly, rattleing, slow cars they used to be. They are quiet, powerfull for a diesel (max torque @ 1900rpm), relable (don't even have block heater and still starts at the coldest days of the winter) and they last forever. The VNT turbo delivers a smooth torque all the way from idle, withouth any sign of lag.

My commuter car is a '00 Jetta TDI 1.9L (fully loaded) 5-speed. Most of my driving (90%) is at ~80mph and still get 48mpg, at ~65mph it would be well over 55mpg.

 

IM thinking real hard about this dunno yet....

VW turbo-diesels rock. I drove the GT-D last time I was in Britain. It has as huch torque as anything short of a mack truck. It gets 50+MPG and it's nimble, though it is a bit of an understeering, plowing beast. That's the FWD, slightly heavy-engined design of the Golf IV though... The motor is an absolute gem, beyond the price of rubies.

If you get the 5 spd Golf you will be able to get 50+ mpg, Auto you will be lucky to get 38 mpg. We bought new Golf in 2002 and it was a complete nightmare. Since the purchase the car has been at least 8x in the garage (last time it broke down, for the 3rd time, they kept it for almost 2 months). They put new computer, new diesel pump, new chip for the key, new injectors, etc. As soon as we got the car back we took it home, cleaned it up and traded it in for a '06 STI. I will never ever buy a VW again. I guess they are good cars as long as they are not giving problems :-).

 

Just like any car, some of them are lemmons. You shouldn't base your judgement on a single car. When the car wasn't in the shop, did you enjoy it? I had no problem at all with mine and it almost has 300K km.

 

I had a 454 suburban that got terrible gas mileage, so I found a diesel Suburban that gets 17 on the highway and 13 when towing. Of course it is old, so it may not be what you want. I am considering going biodiesel next.

 

I thinking more for the fun factor then the utility. I love the sub but with a JGC and The porsche I dont really know why I need the Sub. I dont use it for what it was intended for at all. SO im thinking I got an SUV so why not get something odd and High HP
