I was following Nicole's instruction in this thread (Removing and airbag steering wheel) and got to the point where I'm ready to disconnect the airbag, but I don't want to f things up. Do I remove the oarnga connector? or do I remove the 2 wires near the clock spring? The later doesn't look possible.

The former, well... since this is the business end of things, I want to make sure I don't pull it off the wrong way. Anyone BTDT?

Hi to remove the airbag disconnect the battery first then with a small screwdriver gently pry the orange plug straight up from the bag mount make sure to mark the wire coupler that sits on the steering shaft so it is oriented the same way to store the bag place it out of the way with the wire connection facing down to the ground handle carefully and dont drop the airbag installation is the reverse of removal

Airbag disconnected without a hitch. Whew. I am now in the process of sewing on the new cover.

My company makes steering wheels, and we have a few generic models that we make. I assume there is a VW steering wheel out there that closely resembles the GT's. Either that or I've been driving in reverse all this time!

Rennlist search is so cool.... that's exactly the view I'm looking at right now... and also didn't know which end of the cable to disconnect....
