I've had good luck (so far) with my system holding 134a. This is after a conversion obviously, new dryer, a leak check, a green o-ring changeout throughout, & two new e-valves. Enough cold output...even w/a hot engine on a hot, hot day.
I guess time will tell.

(btw- All hoses were rebuilt with barrier hose.)
If I have to open the system, should I convert back to R12?

I had a leak in the low pressure hose...right where the hose attached to the metal...pretty common from what I hear....but one hose, a dryer & some R12 freon (all of it leaked out) my AC works really well!!! Personally I like R12 since R134 keeps going up in price!! A friend paid $40 for a recharge just the other day....R12 is $75 a lb.....but are cars were designed for it!!
