Angry Oil Line Burst

Well, 48 hours after placing my Shark back on the road after it's winter slumber I had an oil line burt after nailing the throttle. Oil sprayed the back tires causing them to go snakey and smoke like no tomorrow. At first I had just thought I had broken the back end loose but the flashing warning light and zero oil pressure told me different.

I shut down and coasted to a side road where the car was towed to the nearest dealership. If I hadn't been 100 km from home I would have just had it towed home. The front end of the engine is covered in Mobil 1 but while waiting for the tow truck I took a look around and it appears the oil feed line into the Rad ( lower hose) backed out of it's crimped fitting, causing loss of oil.

So for the first time in my 5 years of ownership, the car is going into the shop.

Any advice on what I should insist the shop perform?

Fix the oil line and replace both; but leak down test or other diagnosis I can recommend to let me know the extent of the damage

any advice appreciated

Take the oil lines and have them professionally rebuilt. Those suckers are expensive to buy.

Hi I would get the lines rebuilt at a truck hose dealer they can take the lines and install new hi pressure hose and new crimps and you get to keep your old hose ends. Otherwise new hoses should be installed, i would also recommend that the oil filter be removed and replaced the new filter sbould be primed and the oil drained from the crankcase and new oil installed, when the old oil is draining a sample should be taken to determine if any of the bearings are starting to make metal, IE metal in the oil if there is metal in the oil then the new lines should not be installed until the oil cooler has been flushed

PIRTEK is a franchise operation and I've had those hoses rebuilt by them. Less than $40 for the pair. Other places balked as they couldn't work with the metric German automotive hose fittings.

The dealer may not like that though. I guess it'll be $350 for the pair new through them. These are only sold as the pair.

You are probably right Glen on the dealer’s enthusiasm on installing non-OEM parts. Good heads up on a source for re-build for any one else out there running 20 + year oil hoses though. I did not replace them on spec just because they were old due to the high cost of OEM hoses and of course they looked fine prior to the incident. With your source I would recommend this to any one out there running old hoses, right up with replacing the fuel lines.

Any thoughts on potential / likely (?) damage to engine due to this excursion and tests / procedures I should have them run through. Even though this is a Porsche dealership I know they do not work on that many 928's.
