Default Axle Whoa! s not woes

Conversation this morning when I took an axle to a local axle specialist shop.
The boot had broken, grease everywhere, clunking would soon follow probably.

Guy behind the counter as I walk in with the axle-"Hey, that's a Porsche axle right?"
Me- "Yep, could you,,,,"
Guy behind counter cuts me off-"We can rebuild it, machining, new *****, seals, boots and clamps, pack it for you too".
Me-"How mu,"
Guy cuts me off again-"100 bucks, lifetime warranty"
Me-"Whe,,"
Cut off again" Have it ready in two hours, it'll be on the counter over there"
Me-"Uh, OK see you after lunch".

Sometimes being in the Motor City comes through. The other axle was replaced a couple years ago at almost 3 times the price.

Will put it back on the car tonight.

Fair warning, we have used these rebuilders before and they do not re-harden the CV joints. They do machine them out and use bigger ***** but they are very prone to wearing out much sooner than a factory piece. I put one on a supercharged car and it was done in less than 1.5 years, wasted and not rebuildable. With the horsepower and torque you are building, I'd think twice...

Dave,

You're absolutely right. I am pushing quite a bit of torque. I wish I'd have thought of that. I let me wallet do the thinking here. Its done now though.
Its thinking like that, that separates the pros from us amateurs.
I'll be checking it on a regular basis I guess.

Or just plain common sense.
