A/C compressor question
I may have a leaking seal on the compressor on the '85. Anybody know this vendor?

This particular listing is not for an 85, but I've seen this seller list same. My question is about the "6-groove pulley" Current pulley is open V, (not 6 groove). Can I just get the grooved belt and go (assuming the compressor is for the '85)? These prices are very good. Griffiths has been recommended here, but when I talk to them, all the phone clerk wants to do is sell me 134a stuff, makes me wonder what is going on at their end. Any thoughts about what you would do if faced with my old compressor, etc, appreciated.

It's possible to change the clutch and pulley to get the V-belt to work with the compressor.
I recommend that you talk to 928 Int'l about the Griffiths compressor. I think they sell it for a little less. You should also know that the R-134a compressor will work fine with R-12, if you have the correct oil in it. Use the polyolester, and you'll be able to use either refrigerant in your car.
If the compressor on your car is intact, the shaft seal can be replaced by a competent reefer guy without disassembly of anything more than the clutch from the compressor. Check around your area to see. The basic ND compressor on my '89 is the same one used on many Euro and Japanese cars of the period, except for the particular mounting ears and the various pulley options. The shaft seal is common though. It takes some special tools to do it right, mostly the puller for the clutch hub.

I'd rather not convert, in fact I took the test, bought some r-12, a sniffer and a re-charge station, not recycle. But I'm experienced in removing seals, etc.
Bob, thanks, I'll check it out this weekend. I also haven't forgot your request re my valuation of the GTS vs. your checklist, also this weekend. I was away and this is first time I have to really get into it.
