Default 95GTS#104

Hi Everyone-

This is my first post and hope that I am doing it correctly. I know you guys have talked about this car:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pors...627199895QQrdZ1
(In case this link doesn't work, it's still listed on EBay..it's the 95 with a little over 15k miles).

Anyway, in case anyone else may be interested in this car, just thought that I would post the service documentation that I received. I was provided with a copy of what appears to be the service book. There are handwritten entries without any signatures, dealer stamps or the name of where the service was done. And here's what is listed for the past 11 years:

3/11/95
Nothing listed, just written in. I assume it's when the car was delivered.

8/95 1200 miles
A/C Check-no problem found

9/95 1800 miles
Oil light came on once-no problem found

6/96 4,500 miles
Replaced blown #8 fuse
Replaced backrest seat switch

3/15/99 8,426 miles
Oil/Filter change
New fuel filter
New spark plugs
Coolant Flush/change
Brake Fluid Flush/change
Transmission Fluid Change
New Tires (4)
Air Filter Replacement

4/21/99 8,856
Oil/Filter change to Mobil One 20w-50

9/8/99 9,660
Replace input shaft seal in transmission and refill transmission with synthetic fluid

11/2000 11,078
Oil/Filter Mobil 20/50
Brake fluid flush
Coolant
Belt tension

3/38/06 15,283 (Was provided with a copy of an invoice)
Replace front shift linkage joint
15k service
(I spoke with the shop that did this "15k service" and unless my info on what's included in a 928 15k is wrong, there were a few things that they did not do.)

Without leading you guys one way or another, I would appreciate your thoughts/feedback on this service history. It will certainly help me as I continue my search.

So, here I still sit, not only sharkless but still Porscheless. Bummer. Need to end this drought, if you know what I mean...

Thanks
Kathy

Hi Kathy,

That's about right for the mileage. If I'm not mistaken, Willhoit is selling it and he's known for finding sought after low mileage 928's. It's a beautiful Shark, if I had that kind of cash, I'd be looking too If you're thinking of buying it, definately worth a PPI

Here is the correct link:

95 GTS #0104 on ebay

Hi Kathy:

There is nothing in the service records that would worry me. The oil warning comes on when the oil is close to minimal, and the car is parked downhill. All it takes is top off the oil - nothing to worry.

Hope you won't be Porsch-less for too long!

Hi Kathy,
Wonder why they changed spark plugs and tires w/ only 4 years and 8K miles? Guess someone had some money to spend.
I would have the T-belt changed if I purchased a 928 with an 11 year old belt.

Hi John-

What are your thoughts on the large times gaps in the service history? Would you want more info considering what the car is being $$ listed for?

Thanks
Kathy

I would rather have an experienced 928 mechanic do a thorough pre-purchase inspection. To me, it would be more important what the condition of the car is now than what happened years back. A good PPI should reveal maintenance sins in the past - but it is doubtful that much damage has been done to a car that has been touched (meaning: Worked on and driven) so rarely.

My main concern would be oil leaks, which these cars tend to develop when they are not driven much.

This Willhoit fellow, he seems to turn up alot of low mileage 928s, no one would question wether or not they were actual miles would they?

I wouldn't be concerned with the gaps since the mileage is so low.
A PPI, as Nicole stated would be a good idea.

They are usually pretty well documented cars, As is the case with this particular car like many others he has sold over the years, this will be the third or forth time he has sold it.

Hi Kathy, Like John says, based on the mileage the gaps do not seem overly large to me either. When I bought my blue 95 GTS with 8k miles on it, the history looked quite similar. First thing I did, change the timing belt, all the fluids, spark plugs and filters. Good luck.

Kathy, there is virtually no one in Springfield Mo that is a true 928 mechanic, Wilhoit knows them all, so an unbiased mechanic may be harder to find.
I doubt that its a bad car in any way...I've seen his inventory and they do a great job of detailing and repairing.
Take your time and the right 928 will appear, most likely much closer to home. If you want a VERY nice GTS, I think the pearl white 95 is still available, check Chucks' 928 Registry site...and that one is on the east coast.
my 2 cents
