Usually don't watch the gauge. I have the digital dash so it flashes "Call Range" when I get to around 100 kms of gas left...(not sure how many gallons..I'm assuming it's the 2 gallon reservoir). And then it's off to find gas.
BTW...Wally mention Call Mileage..but mine says Call Range?...what the heck does that mean?..

Having installed a SC.....I can attest that it is a bad idea to believe the "remaining mileage" indicator on a huffed car. It would be ok if we were not forced to increase the injector size, but the computer is calibrated on the stock injectors........

The other thing to remember is that these are not fuel sucking systems, they are fuel pressure systems......without fuel in the back of the fuel pump, all the fuel in the lines in front of the fuel pump is useless..... So just fuel sloshing around in the tank is not enough.....it has to cover the fuel pump inlet.

Mine says "call range" also.

Mine is the same way, however, the needle on the gauge dips way below the reserve mark before the reserve light ever comes on.

I got in 22 gallons the other day. I gues it was almost too late.
Now that I had my in tank fuel pump fixed I can run the car pretty low on fuel.
With the SC installed I don't get much more then 12 MPG, so I seem to be always on empty...

Early in my caretaking period, I decided that the 22.7 gal tank spec wasn't agreeing with the gauge and what I'd been putting in. So I ran it to empty on the gauge and a bit more. Gauge was right, tank spec not that accurate. Pushed into a station (in east L.A. at 11pm, two homeless guys helped with the pushing for $5 tip...) and managed to get 21.5 in there before the nozzle clicked off. Maybe Unocal gallons are bigger than German test gallons? I suspect it's the fact that the pickup is slightly off the bottom of the tank so the scum and rocks don't get sucked through the pump and engine.

Its seem the calibration is different than most american cars....mine will show empty (less than 1/4 tank) which makes me nervous....but the fuel low light has never come on.....the most I ever put in was about 16 gallons....which means there is 6+ gallons left in the car....it must be that the Germans actually set the gauge correctly...so 1/4 tank would be about 5-6 gallons left....its just that the gauge looks empty at 1/4 tank....then again when full it doesn't go all the way above the top white line either (like american cars)?

We in Germany don't use Gallons. You should be able to calibrate your tank gauge if you fell it is not accurate. I emptied my tank via the fuel return line.
I filled in 15 Liters of fuel and calibrated the gauge. It is now very accurate in showing USABLE fuel.

mine too. the cluster is out now to repair the friggin odo gears for the 2nd time in 2yrs so it'll be "adjusted". then the fun begins - playing test pilot /gauge test dummy

20.2 gals, the light was on and gauge looked pretty hungry. the new motor seems about as thirsty as the old one, but I'll know for sure when the odo goes on line again... never got over cough, 17mpg cough stock... must be the AT

I got to £80.00 once from empty then stopped as it was pre pay day! £4 a gallon, must have been at least 20 gallons.

Oddly enough...we both started out together with full tanks and mine came on more than 30 minues later than yours.

If I refill as soon as the light comes on, I can only fit in about 16 gallons. I figure mine comes on whenever I have 6 or so gallons left. Pretty big buffer IMO.

I would call that a very accurate estimate by the computer. It really showed usable fuel :-)

My "Klms remaining" display was at its lowest when I drove the car home when I bought it.

At 8 klms remaining, it started to sputter and died at 2 remaining. I was only 1 klm away from home....I so thought I could make it.

Mine shows km remaining too. My display actaully showed 5 KM "Restreichweite" (Distance remaining).

21.8 gallons - $53.00

The worse part was it was right after I swapped the engine. The car died after two blocks. Towed it back, check the compression.........and.. when I checked the fuel pressure I placed a plastic bowl to catch the gas - nothing but air........ Hmmmmmmmm Chuck.. when was the last time you put gas in the car - So 21.8 was after putting 1 gallon in the car and driving to the gas station

You can change the display language, no?

I'd love to have it in German.

My car is all in klms - not even miles are shown on the speedo. The speedo is neat...gotta love looking down and seeing "300"!!

Make that 3. Mine only goes to 3/4 as well, but will swing way past empty. Light comes on when it should though. I managed to put I think it was 420 or so miles before a fillup, and put in 21 something gallons. Might have been 22. Since everything is working right the gauge is just off, I"m putting it off until I get the pod fixed.
