Default Flywheel resurfacing

I'm taking my flywheel over to be resurfaced. Anyone know the recommended thickness for it to be turned?

As little as necessary... and it needs to be cut all the way out to the lip but not removing the lip since 78-79 cars use that lip to center the assembly/ 1980>86 use dowl pins and a flat flywheel.

Out of curiosity, why should the flywheel be machined as little as possible? Is it mechanical constraint or typical disadvantage of lighter flywheel (noise, difficult pickup, or what not)?

Regards,
Chris
