I've been scouring the net looking for information as to how the GTS Cam Venting mod actually helps the oil ingestion issue with not much luck. I have a much better understanding of how the venting works thanks to Mike Schmidt's write up posted on the Ott engineering site and the studies/developments done by Louie.
I've also read about the GTS upgrade to the current system. It uses different cam cover adapter elbows, an added addapter elbow on the left cam cover, a different oil filler neck and a little different routing that connects the front cam cover vents together.
With the GTS upgrade, the vent hose from the rear cam cover to the air guide cowl is still in place. This is the path for oil into the throttle body on my car. What is the difference in the adaptor elbows? From what I've read, I'm more inclined to change the fresh-air intake to the left side, or the non-windage (?) side; the oil is being thrown down instead of up.
There's only one rub, I need to keep the new venting looking like it is stock because I am due to have my car smogged here in CA at one of the "Smog Only" stations. They will be taking a little closer look for obvious modifications to the car.
Such a dilemma.
Thanks,

John--
I wouldn't worry about the smog issue, especially if you use factory parts. That may include the hose too, especially if you want to concours the car sometime in its future. Generally, the smog guys are not tuned in to the 928 at all, much less the year-to-year differences in hose routings and fittings. I'm not convinced that the "smog only" guys are taking a closer look. On the contray, these folks are generally the ones not sharp enough to do any real repairs on a car. Now the "state referee" station guys are another story, schooled to look for things that are not original.
If you happen to be close to Long Beach or the west OC area, the guy who does my car in Cypress is a former 928 owner. He does the rolling test on my auto with the gearbox locked in 2nd so it will always pass NOx, and has been very helpful. I moved to Glendale 5 years ago, but still manage to coordinate a visit to my folks near there with a smog trip. PM me if you need more info.

I had my old gal converted to the GTS oil control when I had it rebuilt.. there are a few parts that are part of the system:
dual cam cover vents w/special restrictors under the vent openings in the cam covers, different oil filler neck w/special baffles and a reduced opening vent restrictor, oil pan baffle, and some routing hoses. seems to solve the oil ingestion issue pretty well under high RPM/cornering, etc. ck a PET 5 for the GTS for part #'s and details. iirc, parts were inexpensive, but the under manifold balance hose had to come from germany and are in short supply

I'll go with the GTS mod for now. Stock "looking" is what I'm after. Typically when I have my car smogged, the guys just open the hood, scratch their nether regions, then look under the car see the belly pans and scratch their nether regions. I was a bit more worried about guys with the same level of expertise sending me off to the "state referee" because of something they saw or didn't understand.
I'm up in the South Bay area.

John - you still out there...? what did you end up doing and did the GTS system help you at all?
Did it at least keep the smog ****'s at bay?
I wouldn't assume that the GTS system would be much better that the S4 system since the GTS has significant ingestion issues of its own... not sure you could consider what Porsche did as a solution - much more of a work in progress (with warts).
If you went further what did you do next?? did it solve the problem?
