Sliverknit is the factory original that we charge $595 for...
I will try to get a photo of a set with the backing material posted later today, I'm off to lunch.

Funny, that is exactly what my interior looks like Anyone able to revive the carpeting with a brush or other tool? I'm not buying the carpet until next fall so I want it looking its best until then. Sugestions?
By the way, those of you that have replaced your carpeting......did you do it yourself or pay someone to do it? If you paid what was the cost?

Any luck??
Anyone have a pic showing the back of the floor pieces with black dimpled thick mat?

So, how are you supposed to get stains off a silverknit carpet, if anything wet is out of the question? Is there any powder or else that dissolves stains?
If I ever redo my carpets, I definitely don't want to get that "wet poodle" look back...

We sold the last one we had in stock, I've been waiting for one of our local customers that has bought a set to come in for a visit so I can sneak out and snap some photos.
Sterling, we use Dap HHR Solvent type, Spray grade contact cement. It says it's for Landau tops and trim but we have been told by many more experienced folks than us that it's the stuff to use. I use disposable brushes in 1" and 2" sizes for application. The smell goes away after a week or two...

While I haven't tried it on my 928 carpet (don't know why not, just haven't...), we have had very good results from a powder cleaner called "Capture". You just sprinkle it on the carper, and brush it in (the more you brush it, the more effective, it seems), then let it sit for as long as you can (at least 30 minutes), then vacuum it up.
Google will probably have some info - Sears has sold it for years, as do Home Depot, Lowes, and many vacuum cleaner dealers.

That's great information! I found it on epinions with a four star rating. http://www.epinions.com/Appliance_Ac...=94560&x=6&y=6

BTW, the correct term is "sliverknit," not "silverknit."
I think it's because the carpet is not a typical loop and pile carpet but rather it is woven so that the surface consists of myriads of tiny "slivers."
As far as fixing the matted appearance, I'm just brainstorming here, but I would think that GENTLY using something like a new, clean steel brush (like you'd use on a BBQ grill) might undo the mats.

Thanks for clarifying! I'll call it sliverknit from now on...
BTW: Isn't there a car missing in your signature? I mean, the other "sexy" one... Or did you trade both the A4 and that one for an A6? I'm confused.

I must be gettin' way old, but with the sport suspension, and those low profile rubber band tires, I couldn't drive the G35 for more than about 15 minutes without getting a headache! So I must've owned it for all of 6 months. That was not exactly a financial windfall on my part!
